I just had the thought of 'I wonder if we'll ever get Doc writing Al visiting the coffee shop on a visit to Ed' and then imagined somehow Roy doing something to really impress Al just to annoy Ed, so the rest of the visit, Al is gushing about that really cool guy at the coffee place, Roy and Ed during it with gritted teeth cause he doesn't want to curb Al's enthusiasm of the place, as he's hoping to get custody and make it Al's home or something ahhaa

Oh man this is an inspired idea, I have to take notes on this ahaha. God, that would piss Ed off but he's trying so hard because he NEEDS this job, and more than that he needs it to DEVELOP into a real job after the grant runs out and he CANNOT STOP HIMSELF from fighting with his fucking boss who is the most annoying man Ed has ever met in a life ful of fucking annoying men but eventually he NEEDS to have his buy in because he has a PLAN and that PLAN is contingent on getting all three of them to vote to stake him and FUCKING HAWKEYE will always back FUCKING ROY*. But if he doesn't get his shit extremely together, he is never going to get his brother back.

So he brings Al to the shop. Hoping he'll like it, hoping he'll think his brother is doing a good job, hoping he'll see how hard Ed is trying and not be too angry for all the ways he fucked up.

And you know what Roy does that really impresses Al? Something I've actually thought Roy would be good at when thinking about coffee before?

Latte art. It's a thing that a lot of cafes do and can range from the easiest most basic:

Which is a thing that I think Roy would teach to everyone who works there, and every in-house latte goes out with at LEAST chasing hearts. I can do fucking chasing hearts, it's not hard. But getting good at latte art requires a lot of fine motor skills, which I have always held as something Roy has in droves, and I think small, picky little things that require his attention are something he gets into as a way of distracting from the 'everything else' in his brain, so i think he gets very good at it. I think he likes to come up with ones to put on Elicia's hot chocolate, some of which he'd never do in the shop because it requires standing there with like, cocoa powder and a toothpick, but for her he would.

Anyway, so Al is in there and Ed is showing him around and Roy is standing at the bar talking to Hawkeye about something and after she pulls the shot he's just picking up the mug--because he's standing there anyway--and he's just cranking out a couple swans and rosettas

While he's standing there talking and Al is ENCHANTED. Which Ed is both like, "Oh yeah...that is...so cool! Love that. Great. I don't know how to do that." But internally he's thinking, "There's no one fucking else in this shop you could choose to be impressed by??" And Roy, being Roy, notices, and being Roy, decides that he'll be soooooo nice and show this kid some real shit. Asks a regular if she minds if Roy takes a second and:

Al is one second off from fucking clapping. This is clearly, clearly getting to Ed, so Roy tells hawkeye to pull him a shot for a latte he doesn't even fucking want just to show off:

Then as a last straw in which he is heaping coals on Ed's head with the wonder and joy in his brother's eyes, he smiles and asks Al if he'd like a hot chocolate or something. Al says he'd love a hot chocolate, and Roy asks if he likes rabbits, to which he of course says yeah of course he does and:

Al cannot stop talking about how cool and nice Roy is, and how nice it is that they let Ed work for them, and this is such a cool place and the hot chocolate is so good and Ed is going to LOSE IT. But. He really wants Al to like this place, and like Ed's work. And what the fuck is he going to say to Roy, "Fuck you for being nice to my little brother?" even if he knows HE KNOWS he was just doing it to make Ed fucking crazy.

ahahah. God. Sucks to be Ed, as always.

How would one go about making mulled wine like Jill got at Moscow on the Hill? (I hope I got that right. I wanted to write cider so bad but I'm pretty sure that's wrong.) Brand recommendations welcome. I now want to try and make that over winter XD

Mulled wine is very easy to make, but it does require some dialing in for personal preferences. It's just hot wine with spices! I like mine not as sweet, so I usually do it with red wine, orange and apple slices, brandy, and spices.

The way I make mine is very different from the way Moscow on the Hill makes theirs, but I did some sleuthing, and if I was going to try and replicate how they did it, here's how I would go about it:

1 bottle red wine, I feel like they use some thing jammy or even sweet in itself. Jam Jar makes a shiraz I find VERY sweet, and I know your tastes run sweet. In general a Shiraz or Syrah, or even a ZInfandel, might be good ideas.

Russian Black Tea--this probably doesn't have to be Russian, any kind of smokyish black tea would work. Like 2 bags, probably.

like 3 pears, ripe and sweet

cinnamon sticks or bits

two guys of star anise

whole cloves

a little bit of nutmeg

Throw the whole operation into the crockpot and put it on low for like....6 hours.

Throw in a cup of brandy.

Taste it and adjust accordingly--you can add some hot pear or apple juice if you want it sweeter, I assume they add that or straight up sugar to theirs.

Marry: Elisa, no question. She might be a bit too intense for my tastes at times, but in general she's pretty laid-back and I think we'd have some decent conversations. The nocturnal schedule would probably be the main issue for me.

How would Rei react to Zoisite impersonating her?

I’ve been thinking on this for a while, and much as with Rei herself, I think the answer would be as intense as it is contradictory.

First, there’d just be pure white hot rage that someone dared DARED I SAY to steal Rei’s look, her bearing, HER RED HIGH HEELS. And are they even providing her with financial compensation? A licensing fee, if you will? NO THEY ARE NOT. (Rei scrawls herself a note for later to look into copyright law. That Sailor Mars could itself be argued an copy from the Silver Millennium does not occur to her, though if it had, she would argue full rights over the image were clearly transferred to her upon her first transformation, and if Queen Serenity doesn’t like that, she can contact Rei’s lawyers.)

Then comes a whole new level of fury as Rei notices that people are cheering for this CLEAR and OBVIOUS fake Sailor Mars. (”THAT’S NOT MY SHADE OF RED IT’S GOT TOO MUCH PURPLE IN IT AND IT’S NOT EVEN THE SAME PURPLE AS MY PURPLE WHO IS THIS MONOCHORME BITCH”) They should KNOW and that they DON’T know is such a slap in the face Rei can barely stand it. She has to be talked down from the ledge of incinerating the crowds alongside her imposter, because they are all accomplices, every last one, and thus EVIL.

Finally, when they corner Zoisite and Rei won’t stop yelling in his face, Zoisite dismissively declares he made a poor choice and should have gone for the much less shrill Sailor Mercury, and Rei immediately changes gears to affronted that Zoisite would think anyone a BETTER choice than her.

Preferences! Melisandre, Michiru, Marisa Coulter, and Rose Armitage (Get Out)

Okay, let's do this and see how hard it is.

4) Rose Armitage. I had to look her up to see if she was the mom or the daughter. Which I'm actually okay with. I don't think the white people from Get Out are supposed to be multi-faceted three dimensional people, they're supposed to be just caricatures of various types of racism. Rose, I think, is supposed to be the girl who dates a black guy and acts like it's amazing that she's dating a black guy.

3) Melisande. For the life of me, I can't figure out what rubs me wrong about her. I dislike her but not in the fun way or the interesting way a good villian is done but I just dislike her. Which is weird because she's a well-written three dimensional character and has some fascinating character traits. But something about her just bugs me. I'm hoping with my reread I can pin down what's happening there.

2) Marisa Coulter. HIS DARK MATERIALS SPOILER AHEAD (for Jet). So it's been quite a while since my last reread of it so this is going off my rather patchy memory. She's fascinating and very well done. She manages to break out of the traditional feminine roles while still being very feminine. She's ruthless but that moment where she rushes in, absolutely terrified that Lyra has gone through intercision has always stuck with me. It's such a moment of terrified love from a woman who is otherwise incredibly self-contained.

1) Michiru. Queen of my heart. Doc has converted me to the Michiru way and there is no turning back. I love so much about her. Her do or die attitude when it comes to protecting her. The fact that she approaches so much in life as though it will disappoint her, but that's fine, because everyone and everything does. Her judgemental air. I love that she's always one Haruka death away from being in a villain. I love her.

Hey so you know how I don’t usually do villain ships? How I rarely do poly ships, and even then only as an OT3? And then how I wrote four fucking Gargoyles fics before I ever watched a single episode of the show?

That’s because painted started screaming about Owen/Xanatos and I encouraged it, because I wanted to be a supportive friend. Now I’m knee-deep in this fandom myself and it is entirely, entirely her fault.

I’m not sure which of us is enabling the other at this point.

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

Oh gosh. I love friendships, but I have to say the big ones for me are Stiles, Allison, and Lydia from Teen Wolf, Derek and Boyd from Teen Wolf, Xanatos and Elisa from Gargoyles, and Barnaby and Kaede from Tiger & Bunny.

With Stiles, Allison, and Lydia, I always loved their dynamic and the fact that none of them were supernatural (well, at least at first) and they still jumped headfirst into handling all that supernatural shit because the people they cared about were involved.

With Derek and Boyd, I just always thought he would’ve been a good lieutenant for Derek, and I enjoyed exploring their friendship in fics because fuck knows canon was never going to get into it.

Xanatos and Elisa I discussed really recently here so I won’t go too much more in-depth with it right now.

For Barnaby and Kaede, I just...I love stepdad!Barnaby. I love Kaede growing out of her crush on him and seeing Barnaby for who he really is, and them bonding over how much they care about Kotetsu. I love Barnaby figuring out how to be a parent to a girl who’s almost a teenager. One of my favorite fics I’ve written ended up being much more about Barnaby and Kaede than Barnaby and Kotetsu, and I loved every second of it.

Projects! What sewing project are you most proud of? Have you kept any of your tutus for yourself?

Ooh, good question and thank you for the question! Sorry not to have been engaging more with the thing. :-)

I do have one tutu that I’ve kept, it was a trial run for a set of 10. It’s pretty crappy materials and there’s a lot wrong with it, so it’s not something I’m proud of.

I am planning to make myself a good one, though. I met a fellow tutu maker here in Denver, and she’s awesome. She’s also way more experienced than I am, and has offered to walk me through her tutu making process. I’m planning to make one to fit me, mostly so I can have the experience of wearing a properly fitted one. (They are TIGHT.) That was supposed to be happening now, obviously those plans are on hold for a bit.

I’m planning to do something sort of along these lines:

Only more burgundy, less neckline, and with sleeves. Because aerialist arms look really, really strange in a tutu. XD

My clients are all kids heading for competitions, which means their world (and perforce my tutus) revolve around the solo they’ve chosen to perform. If I were choosing a solo for myself, it would have to be this one from Don Quixote. It’s from a wedding scene, so it’s a little less silly for an adult amateur to perform than the ‘look at me I’m young and naive and pretty’ ones that show up at the beginning of ballets. And I love to move fast, I’m good at echappes (the things she starts doing at 0:43), and the end section is the most joyful bit of dance I’ve ever seen.
