honey: when your muse loves someone (whether it be romantic, platonic, or familial love), how do they show it?

acts of service. percy definitely loves to feel needed and useful, especially for those he loves and deeply cares about. to his siblings and people around him, this comes across as him trying to do everything for everyone else, or even as him not thinking they’re good enough to do things for themselves, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth (most of the time). 

he’s a lot more in tune to the needs of everyone around him than they realize, and he shows his affection and care for them through small actions. whether it’s him fussing over them being sick (i.e. him sending ginny to the infirmary to get pepperup from madame pomfrey during chamber of secrets) or him giving them insight that he thinks they need. most of the time, these acts are unwanted, and mixed with his pompous nature, it doesn’t seem very genuine at all. 

he’s not the greatest at expressing his affection, he’s far more serious and awkward at handing intimacy (particularly towards family). since his behavior is quite formal for his age, his help comes across more as him trying to assert his years of experience and knowledge over someone. while this definitely leads to some tension if someone gets upset at him, percy definitely tries to work on how he expresses affection towards loved ones as he grows up.

percy is introduced to be a very prideful person when he first makes his appearance in the books, and he is definitely a character directed by his goals and ambitions as opposed to his morals and emotions. being prideful and wanting to make it far in life are two things that are somewhat hard to do together. after all, you aren’t always given the resources and help that you need to accomplish things if you don’t ask. i think this is where his tendency to suck up to his superiors comes into play. he isn’t one to ask, at least not at first, because he wants to come across as competent and independent. however, by making himself very known to his superiors and to those he thinks would be very beneficial to helping him achieve his pathway to greatness, he’ll start to slip in the not-so-subtle conversations about what he hopes to achieve in his career. 

when it comes to bossing people around and providing his input (even if no one asked for it), this gives him the sense of confidence that he needs. asking for help is much different, it comes with a certain vulnerability, and percy weasley isn’t the type to willingly show that he’s vulnerable. he’s stubborn and fiercely set in showing that he could do things by himself. his leadership positions at hogwarts also contributed to this, and it helped him build a sense of identity that was rooted in success and leadership. he isn’t accustomed to being the one who has to ask questions and to request for favors, so his solution is to just put the idea of what he wants into people’s heads so that they’ll pick up on what he needs and give it to him without him having to ask for it. 

percy definitely would like to earn it for himself, but he will accept any (and all) help that he is offered along the way, but if anyone asked, he’ll act as if it was an act of kindness that he didn’t particularly ask for. with the field of work he wants to go into, having connections is VITAL, so honestly, i don’t think he’d even see people offering their help as genuine assistance. he’d simply think that was part of his hard work and his own willingness to interact with others in the office.

Tarzan/Princess and the Frog please! 💕

TARZAN: How did the place your muse grew up in affect them?

growing up at the burrow came along with it’s own set of pros and cons. for percy, most of these things were cons considering how out of place he felt amongst everyone in his family. bill and charlie were way closer in age, making them far closer to each other than to anyone else, and all of his younger siblings paired up with each other as well. i think this type of family dynamic led him to feel really lonely in a house that was always full, which did quite the number on his self esteem and the way he carries himself. 

not only did everyone in the family seem to have their own confidante and partner in crime, but they also seemed to have a very specific niche. bill’s was essentially being the first to do everything, he was like a test trial that went perfectly, given that he was a good kid at school, was a prefect AND head boy (two things that percy was, but it wasn’t nearly as impressive since he wasn’t the first to accomplish it in the family). charlie had his dragons and quidditch, the twins had their humor, pranks, and quidditch. ron had his antics with harry and hermione along with dumbledore’s army, and ginny had quidditch and dumbledore’s army as well. everyone’s interests and accomplishments were unique and made sense for them. with bill having already done what percy considers to be his own niche, it just leads to the obsessive need to PROVE HIMSELF. he wants to set himself apart, which is a huge factor into why he sucked up to the ministry so much in the later books — it was finally his chance to be his own person and to have done something that none of his siblings have done before.

in another sense, i think that growing up in such a busy household led percy to be more inclined and tolerant towards social interactions. since he’s so accustomed to noise and ruckus already, i think that to some degree, that’s impacted the type of environments that he puts himself in. in goblet of fire, during the chaos of the tri-wizard tournament, before barty crouch sr. disappeared, he seemed to be handling himself quite well. it was said that he was a little bit too excited to be left in charge while barty crouch was away, and i think the chaotic energy of the burrow helped him get into his element as the leader and voice of reason. 

when he finally turns his back on the family and goes to live in his london apartment alone, isolated from the rest of them, i think it takes a toll on him. going from a place of constant noise, life, and laughter to a small, dingy apartment with just his owl could be quite the shocker.
