so I’ve seen some posts going around and had a few conversation over the past few weeks with my policy on sexuality with my characters.
first and foremost, my muse is basically demi-sexual. i say basically because i am not an expert on labeling and just find that term better suited.
she doesn’t mind affection, however, which in her mind registers on a completely different level. being affectionate is touching or holding hands, it’s stroking someone’s hair behind their ears or giving them a kiss. these things are focused on the expression of love or compassion.
this is an oddity with elves, at least in the common place, as expression of affection is normally very mute.
a lot of people view elves are non-sexual creatures, which i don’t agree with. i think them like any other race, they merely are able to refrain in the public eye for the most part. however, there are some elves that just aren’t ornately sexual and my muse is most certainly one of them.
she doesn’t normally have sexual urges, and if she displays them it’s out of desire to please someone else or comfort someone else. which now thinking about it seems kind of terrible, but i digress. i will not say it could never happen, especially in the case of loving someone a great deal, but it is very very very rare.
in addition, rýn is more affectionate than average persons in the elvish world, but this is mostly to her upbringing being less refined in the public eye. she grew up partially in the wild, only with her family and those who lived in their direct community. it was a close-knit group deprived of social constructs of norm for the most part.
so when in contact when my muse, things that are okay can be for people she has an emotional connection with: hand holding, kissing, touching hair or clothing, cuddling to an extent, etc. things that are not okay? anything to do with removal of clothing or sexual contact with the body.
now here's the question, she has a son? well yes, i mentioned before that she’s capable of displaying the urges, and in addition i view procreation amongst elves as an emotional and loving action more so than a sexual one. so the act of creating her son, would be fine to her because she would be A. truly and utterly in love with her partner. B. performing the act with no sexual goal in mind. C. creating her child, the most purest form of love. i see it no differently than doing some kind of manual project where you have to get your hands dirty to make something beautiful. it’s just a step in that line to her and something she doesn’t see negatively. in addition, depending on the verse (as the relationships with thranduil’s vary) if she was truly in love with him, there could be that rare occasion i mentioned before.
