It’s the casual way Mobius sets his chaotic boyfriend The God of Mischief loose on everyone. Mobius is so attuned to Loki, he immediately knows how he’s going to react, offering him a gentle warning or permission to proceed. And Loki carefully waits for that permission before he acts, implying this is a familiar dynamic that’s been established beforehand.

I only recently read the stories, but I love them <3 But please don’t delete the stories, just post a rewrite so that we can continue to enjoy the nostalgia of rereading a classic :)

I’m probably not going to delete the originals - I know they’re important to a lot of people.

I feel like we don’t talk about this scene enough. It’s the implication that Mobius knows every terrible thing Loki has ever done and has still never seen him as a villain because of it. It’s Loki intimidating Brad by saying that Mobius—the person who understands him best—would agree that Loki is capable of getting what he needs from Brad. It’s Loki admitting that Mobius is the one who knows him better than anyone else ever has. It’s the casual intimacy of the statement, just 3 ostensibly unimportant words thrown on at the end of a sentence that ultimately reveals how familiar and close they really are to each another.

Loki literally stares directly at Mobius for almost 10 full seconds before announcing what his time slipping is really about. Sylvie is behind him the entire time and Loki only turns around to say he can rewrite the story, to tell Sylvie what he’s already decided to do. There is absolutely no doubt who Loki is referring to when he discovers what’s really driving him.

The exact same scene, and yet an entire lifetime apart. There is no better illustration of the profoundly transformative impact Mobius had on Loki’s character from the beginning to the end of his show.

In the first episode, Loki’s posture is stiff, cold, abrasive, unyielding. His arms are crossed to shield his body and distance himself from everyone around him. He neither trusts nor is trusted by anyone. He sees every interaction as a game to be won, an exercise only in manipulation and deceit. In the final episode, Loki’s posture is open, genuine, relaxed, attentive. He faces Mobius fully, leans forward to give his full attention. The scenes are brilliantly shot to put distance between Loki and everyone else in 1x1 and changes to close-ups in 2x6 to illustrate that personal connection, to show how much more open and intimate and sincere they are with each other. Mobius has taught him to trust and be trustworthy, to value the advice and wisdom of his dearest friend. He no longer deflects, attacks, or hides himself, he seeks Mobius’ comfort and opinion and thanks him for everything Mobius has done for him.

Loki returns to the beginning a truly changed person and that is what gave him the strength to accept his burden in the end.

A review of the moment in 2x1 when Loki disappears right in front of Mobius, to add to @percheduphere’s lovely analysis of this scene. The pause is truly so significant and is way too long to not be meaningful (in a totally feelings-realization not-entirely-platonic way). I previously timed Loki's long stare at Don/Mobius in 2x5 when declaring who his time-slipping is about, which is almost 10 seconds of direct eye contact. This scene in 2x1 holds for almost 13 seconds of Mobius processing Loki's disappearance before finally announcing that Loki Making It Back is the Only Option. Season 2 really started off by immediately exploring how much Loki and Mobius mean to each other and I’m so grateful their dynamic was given such focus and intention in the final half of the show.
