Something important I wanted to share...
When I think back to my childhood I remember being more drawn to white characters on TV and film because I am white and therefore I felt like I could identify with them more. This made me realise how important POC representation in the media is. I asked my Asian friend what she saw as the "normal" when growing up. She said she thought "white" was the normal and she was the "different". I have never felt what it's like to be the "different" and to be honest it's quite nice. I just wanted to acknowledge that it is nice and I hope that in the future everyone, no matter what race can grow up feeling safe and valued by society. I am aware that I benefit from white privilege and I think it is time more people acknowledge this.
