And when you mentioned the "thrawn does it so the skywalkers don't have too" it's so amazing. Cuz he'd literally be a love based sith. he cases so much for his people that he is willing to do almost anything and everything to keep them safe, including embracing the dark side.

I would also be fascinated about what Thrawn's sith lightning would look like...I imagine instead of burning hot, it burns cold.

Yeah like maybe in this AU the chiss aren't well off. They're constantly being manipulated by other planets bc of their resources and their skywalkers. So in order to prevent a group of the last skywalkers sent off to coruscant or whatever, he agrees to undergo a chaos ritual that grants him access to the Force-

But it's so off and so wrong. He serves the new sith Lord (not sure who this would be in this AU ) in exchange for the isolation of the Chiss Ascendancy. The power wrecks havoc on Thrawn as a person, corrupts him. Several documented war crimes later he his exiled from the Ascendancy itself, thus causing Thrawn to turn on his master.

Also I thought maybe instead of Hoth being a focal point in lieu of Tattooine, maybe it's Lysatra. Then I can bring Eli in on the AU shenanigans

For his lightning I would think he would master the art of casting it without it being seen. Certainly it can be heard bit no visual flashes or arcs? Makes for terrifying rumors eh?

He's still not fluent in Hungarian but he's really good in languages and will catch up soon if you could help him a little. What do you think, would that suit you? At least for the nearest future.

Ensign Eli Vanto is the socially competent person capable of navigating every political space he ends up in. Vanto is constantly tasked with saving the smart (and good looking) stranger Thrawn, all while saving the galaxy from pirates. With his comrades Faro and Yularen Vanto makes his way up the military hierarchies, hunting for SOMEONE'S nemesis 'nightswan'.

Bonus - Sean Connery was a sexist and the whole James Bond franchise can burn. I'm just here to have fun and dance on some graves.

It’s pathetically amusing how quickly fic has turned me into a little hypocrite. Out of one side of my mouth is the firm declaration that “Kanan is dead g’dam it! It’s sacrilege to mess with that story line. Dead’s dead!!” Out of the other side comes drooling words of worship of the authors who resurrected one of my favourite ships: NighThrawn.

What can I say?

It started with the Putting on a Show collaboration with @draculard and it may be the end of me, as I seemed to have tripped and fallen into a fleece-lined rabbit hole with From Fire to Ice. (I would tag your collaborator, but I don’t know their handle) I am currently in a holding pattern: refusing to read chapter 8 like an insolent child prolonging night chores to avoid bed🤣 I don’t want this damn thing to end😢

I few burning questions have developed in the interim, as I forestall the eventual end of the fic. Please indulge me if you will😊

I am amazed at how perfectly accurate y’all capture what I consider to be one of the greatest losses to Star Wars canon, Nightswan. As I read, it ignited an internal debate as to whether it is more difficult to resurrect a deceased character and breathe life into him, or is it actually more freedom to develop a character without the constraints of canon? Building a bit on this query: what IS the prep that one experiences when developing a character far beyond his canon life? Are there perimeters pre-set for personality? (like a profile) or do you just sit down and let the fingers do the walking?

Obviously, I could be overthinking the process, if so, feel free to gently nudge me off the edge back into my fleece-lined rabbit hole🤣🤣

That's all something I never really thought about directly 🤔 There's certainly a lot of freedom in taking a less-developed character and building them out from the small hints of their personality and backstory we do get in canon, regardless of whether the character has a canon death or just.. isn't around much. I can come up with my own take on who that character is and where they come from, without worrying about contradictions with canon material or making them wildly OOC with what can be reasonably expected based on canon. So I guess instead of putting the work in to make them feel properly in-character, it takes different work to make them feel like a fully-fledged character in their own right, rather than an enigmatic supporting character we don't know much about.

I know with Nightswan in particular, for me personally, just including him in multiple fics is probably what helped me develop most of my own take on his personality? I'm sure my earliest Nightswan fics have a relatively less well-developed, less deep character for him, for that very reason. Contrast that with my most recent (I think?) version of Nightswan: the AU - Canon Divergence Nevil in Inflection Point. In that one, I developed my own backstory and personality for him to the point that he's very nearly an OC inspired by canon Nightswan. But it was necessary to make the story work since he's even more a 'main character' of that fic than Thrawn himself 😂 And I would bet that a lot of my Nevil personality there was strongly influenced by jewell's development of him for our nightthrawn fic!
