what? luke and zara get caught up in a moment and kiss. luke acts like a jerk and says some stupid stuff
It took a moment before it even occurred to Luke what was happening. He was kissing Zara. And the movie they had been watching was going on in the background without them. “Um,” he mumbled, pulling back, a hot blush rushing into his cheeks as he did so, eyes turning to the ground as he took a swift step away from her. “That, um...” he trailed off, not sure what to say about what just happened.
Zara was stuck to the ground where Lucas had left her. A couple of seconds passed before she was able to register what had just happened. "Yeah, uh," was all she could say in response as her body grew warm. Her eyes darted around the room, not really knowing what to do next, but she settled on sitting on the couch, her elbows propped up on her knees. "You have a boyfriend, Lucas," she said quietly, her legs bouncing.(edited)
After Zara sat Lucas followed her over, taking a seat on the couch as well, though a good distance away from the girl, and still not looking at her. “Yeah, I know,” he responded, a little annoyed at the mention, as if he could have forgotten. Though, of course, he obviously had forgotten at least for a moment. “Lapse in judgement,” he said, his face pinching up as he said it. “Massive fucking lapse in judgement,” he continued, pressing his face into his hands as he realized the possible consequence of his actions.
Looking over at Lucas, Zara could see how upset he was that he had just kissed someone who wasn't his boyfriend. Still, she had to ask. "Are you happy with Jack?" She turned her body towards him slightly, her eyebrows furrowed and her head cocked to the side.
Lucas instinctively scoffed at the question, still not looking at the girl and keeping himself distant from her even as he felt her turning toward him. “That’s not the point,” he said, shaking his head. “That wasn’t about Jack. Jack’s perfect.”
Zara's eyebrows shot up and she sat up a little straighter. "Okay, then what was that about?" she asked him, starting to get somewhat impatient.
Lucas just shook his head a the question. “The stupid movie,” he said, gesturing sloppily to the tv screen where the musical was still playing. “We just got caught up in the moment.”
Zara crossed her arms and leaned back into the couch, squirming a little. If she was being honest, she didn't like that Lucas wouldn't just talk to her about whatever was obviously going on. "If that's what you say," she said, crossing her arms a little tighter.
Lucas looked in the opposite direction in a pout. “That’s what I say,” he agreed, crossing his own arms and letting out a little huff of breath.
Zara couldn't help it; she let out a little laugh. "Are you five years old?" she asked. "Because you're acting like you're five and your toy just got taken away."
Normally Lucas would have agreed with Zara and laughed along with her about his own behavior but he was too in his own head at this moment to get any perspective, so instead he shot her an annoyed glare. “No, I’m just pissed,” he told her with another annoyed little huff. “About... being a bad boyfriend. And a bad best friend,” he shakes his head, not realizing what he’s saying.
Zara turned to face him more, pulling her leg up onto the couch. She shook her head in return. "I think if you explained to Jack what happened he'd understand. It was just an accident, right?" Her eyebrows furrowed. "What do you mean a bad best friend?"
Lucas shook his head in response. “Yeah, I mean, of course. It’s just.. It’s the principle,” he said, looking away from her again. He ignored her second question though, knowing he had messed up even by mentioning it.
Zara slouched a little. "Yeah, I get it," she responded. She waited a second, waiting for him to answer her second question but he never did. She shook her head, her eyes wide, wondering why he hadn't responded. "What do you mean a bad best friend?" she asked again, a nervous laughter escaping her lips. There was obviously a reason he was ignoring her question.
Lucas just shook his head, still not looking at Zara but now out of embarrassment more than anything else. “If I told you, it would make me an even worse friend,” he said finally.
Zara's eyes stayed wide as she felt her heartbeat quicken. "You can't just mention it and then not tell me!" She started racking her brain to see if she could figure it out herself. It didn't really take her long, seeing as she knew who Lucas' best friend was. "Does...does Kenneth, like, have feelings for me or something?" she finally asked.
Lucas grimaced at the question, finally looking at the girl, his face definitely revealing the answer. “I didn’t say that,” he told her, scrunching up his face.
Zara didn't really know how to respond. She thought of Kenneth more as a younger brother to her than anything else. She squirmed uncomfortably. "I mean, I don't really reciprocate...and that's not your fault."
Lucas pulled a face. “You can’t say anything to him,” he said, frowning. “It’s just, we had this agreement... Unspoken, but I mean, it was there... That neither one of us would...” he trailed off.
Zara shook her head. "No, of course I won't." She listened as Lucas somewhat explained why he was a bad best friend. "Well, I mean," she started, pausing to itch the top of her nose, her eyes squeezed shut; something she did when she was thinking. "You should probably tell him then, right?"
Lucas frowned. “What just to rub it in?” he questioned, knowing it wasn’t what she meant, but knowing that if he mentioned it to Kenneth it would feel like that. “Hey, I kissed Zara but it’s not a big deal or anything and I’m not interested in her but also you still shouldn’t try anything with her cause she’s not interested. She told me when I accidentally mentioned that you like her.”
Zara frowned back at him. "That's not what I meant but I see your point. I guess if it was unspoken before it could just...continue being unspoken," she responded, shrugging.
“Yeah,” Lucas just shook his head a little, feeling pretty uncomfortable now. “Um, I should go,” he said finally, standing up. “I need to... think.”
"Yeah, of course," Zara responded, standing up with him. She walked over to her front door and opened it for him.
Lucas followed Zara over to the door, standing in the open door for a moment. “I’ll, uh, tell you, if i decide to say something to anyone. Just, like, give you a heads up. In case.”
Zara nodded. "Okay," she responded. "I'll talk to you later then."
