when it comes to missions and assignments, kuruk tends to leave his datapad unattended. it’s with him of course, but it’s silent, ignored. if the knights need him they can reach him on their comms channels. and if anyone else needs him, well - they can wait until the job is done. that’s the priority order, when it comes to missions. everything else can wait.
it’s really only a whim that kuruk even thinks to check it as he begins to pack up his sniper’s nest. the day had been.... relatively successful, all things considered. kuruk had certainly gotten the information they needed, even if they’re still having a hard time working around the ceasefire. so he’s in decent spirits - which are immediately dashed when he sees a series of messages from someone who absolutely should not be contacting him anymore.
>>>hi.
>>>hey.
>>>hello.
>>>kuruk?
>>>hi?
>>>uh.... i think we should talk.
the messages are bizarre enough on their own. but the sender is what concerns him. poe. that damned pilot.
the past few weeks have been... frustrating. ever since revealing his identity to poe, showing that he’s a knight of ren and - he assumed - making it clear that the pilot should not be involved with him in any way beyond their roles in this war, kuruk has done everything possible to swallow those emotions. to lock them up tight somewhere, to ignore them. pretend they don’t exist. pretend poe, as a person, doesn’t exist. he’s just another resistance pilot to be handled one day, nothing more.
he’s certainly not the first person to see kuruk as something beyond just a knight. he’s absolutely not someone who could... make kuruk smile by doing nothing but being there and being his usual goofy self. he’s absolutely not - not someone kuruk could possibly feel something for. and yet these messages make something flip in his stomach, make. stop that.
he shouldn’t respond. really, he shouldn’t. but...
poe needs to learn that this is a bad idea. sooner rather than later.
