They step back. They didn’t actually expect a response. When they talked to monsters, ‘hearing their voices’ was more like feeling their emotions in the sounds they made--that power they experienced for the first time as they heard Oltura’s desperate cries to live pulsing through them. They say friendly words to make monsters feel more at ease, but they don’t expect anything in return…
"…well. Color me surprised. This is the first time I’ve ever had a conversation with a monster,” they say. “You aren’t from around here, are ya? But you look just like a Zamtrios, ‘cept your feet are a little bit different. Zamtrios are land sharks that live in the Loloska region, quite a far ways away from here--Mahana Island. They’ve got bits of orange on their fins, tail and legs and their feet end in claws rather than fins. I guess you could say their bodies are a great deal more…humanoid, I’d say, than yours is? Like they look like they can stand up and walk to you on two legs, though they can’t. Here’s a picture in my Monstiepedia.”
They flip to the appropriate page.
