Hi y'all! I'm back, and I honestly would have written this up sooner since I finished this book over the weekend, but the timing just never lined up. So, here are my thoughts, feelings, and ramble on...

Ever since Anna can remember, her aunt has warned her of the dangers of magic. She has taught her to fear how it twists and knots and turns into something dark and deadly. It was, after all, magic that killed her parents and left her in her aunt’s care. It’s why she has been protected from the magical world and, in one year’s time, what little magic she has will be bound. She will join her aunt alongside the other Binders who believe magic is a sin not to be used, but denied. Only one more year and she will be free of the curse of magic, her aunt’s teachings and the disappointment of the little she is capable of. Nothing – and no one – could change her mind before then. Could it?

This book was just so much fun! Cari Thomas has a great way of really describing her settings, and just as important, especially in a book about magic, she's just as good as describing that as well. She takes a lot of inspiration from the magic of old that she learned about while growing up in Wales, and it definitely shows!

I honestly think my only complaint with this was that I didn't realize it was more of a Young Adult novel. I found it in a different section in the bookstore, so the sudden high school scenes were a little unexpected, and also not entirely my favorite, but that's more of my own personal preference coming out.

Aside from that, I thought the writing was really done, especially for a first time novel. The ending did seem just a tad rushed, but that didn't keep me from wanting more, which is of course exactly what Cari wants since she plans on making this a series. Speaking of, the second book isn't set to hit the shelves until July 2024, so a bit of a wait on our hands, but nothing I can't handle!
