Drew wondered how many hours he had spent sat in this bar in the past few years. He decided it was probably best not to know. It was routine now, after work on a Friday he would grab some dinner, freshen up and make his way to the bar at the end of his block. From there, it was a gamble on if he would go home alone or not. He wasn’t sure which he preferred, finding a woman to take back to his apartment, or going back on his own where at least he didn’t have to get used to the silence once more the next day. At least tonight he had company. Or had. His friend had been more proactive in the flirting department and was currently too preoccupied to pay him any attention. He couldn’t help but smile though, as he ordered another overpriced whiskey. He signalled the bartender to get the woman at the other side of the new pairing a fresh drink. As he moved closer, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “I thought you should at least get a consolation prize for also being abandoned.” He raised his glass in the air, a mock toast. “To being third and fourth wheels.” He teased. “I’m Drew.” He introduced himself, hoping that she would at least chat with him now, to save him from calling it a night already.
