Distraction || Mordin & Dalen
Getting out of Huerta had been no trouble at all – hell, today Dalen found it easier than ever. So this was how it felt to be completely invisible, he guessed. Even when he was standing right there, no one seemed to notice. Convenient, yes, but… it didn’t feel quite right. Not right now. It was like everyone was intentionally ignoring him, leaving him – and his racing mind – to his own devices.
Dammit. He needed something to do. Any distraction, no matter what it was, sounded brilliant. It was just a matter of finding one…
Ducking through the wards wasn’t much trouble, either, and he’d certainly had plenty of practice with it. He didn’t have any particular destination in mind. He simply wandered, going whichever way his feet seemed interested in at whatever moment. So when his feet led him to the entrance to Dr. Solus’s clinic, he was just a tad bit skeptical. He couldn’t possibly have been thinking this all along, could he? No, this was just stupid… what was he even doing here? Turning up on some somewhat familiar doorstep like a stray goddamn cat. He wasn’t that pathetic, was he?
Oh wait, Dalen thought as the lightbulb of bitter self-deprecation went off in his head, I am exactly that pathetic.
Well, he supposed he was already here – no sense in turning around now. And there was at least a small possibility that the professor would have some stray work around that he could do. Even just tidying things a bit would be a welcome distraction…
Doing his best to swallow his nerves, he opened the door as little as he could get away with and poked his head through the opening. “Um, P-professor Solus?” he called hesitantly, “Are… are you here?” Shit, there was a stupid question if he ever asked one. Of course the professor was here, it was his damn clinic in the middle of the damn day! But still, it was already out, so… best not to make even more of a fool of himself, if he could manage it. So he clamped his mouth shut and waited for an answer, preparing himself to casually walk away if one didn’t come.
