It had happened so fast that James didn’t know what was going on, one minute he had been in his room the next there had been shouting outside of his door, the institute was under attack and by Valentine of all people. Normally he would be one to stray away from a fight like this but that wasn’t what his family taught him, they taught him to be brave and selfless and he wasn’t going to stand by and watch people around him die. Not again. He was bruised and bloody by the end of it, stumbling into a room full of dead downworlders after the sword had been activated and he could only think of one person- he didn’t even ask questions. He ran as fast as he could to the others place, still bloody, still bruised, not caring about the pain flooding his body or the fact he could have activated his iratze, his sword was still gripped in his hand- it was like all his senses were focused on making sure that he was okay. That he was alive. He used his fist to bang on the others front door, shouting his name, shaking too much to think about logic, too frozen to simply open the apartment door, afraid of what he might see. “Elliott! Elliott! Please- open the damned door... please.” He all but pleaded because he couldn’t go through this again, he couldn’t lose someone else he loved. If he did-.. he didn’t know if he could go on any longer.
