Failed Attempt.
INVOLVED: Simone Jones and Rebecca Evans. TIME FRAME: Saturday Night, July 26, 2014. LOCATION: Local restaurant; Miami, Florida. SUMMARY: Rebecca and Simone attempt to sit down for a dinner out.
Simone sat across from Rebecca in the restaurant, glancing at her menu before she sat it aside and looked up at Rebecca, tucking some hair behind her ear.
Rebecca looked over her menu, not really hungry herself. She flipped through the few pages before she moved back to the appetizers looking them over again.
Simone licked her lips as she gazed at Rebecca before she glanced around the restaurant. Looking back down at the menu Simone decided what she wanted before she closed it up and set it aside, tapping her fingers against the table lightly.
Rebecca continued to think in her head rather she wanted a meal or an appetizer, she huffed looking up. "What are you getting?" she asked Simone seeing her menu was placed aside.
Simone’s fingers rapped hard against the table as she looked at Rebecca and she glanced at her menu before looking back up. "The boneless wings with the chipotle honey sauce and onion rings."
Rebecca nodded at Simone looking down at her hands. "Something bothering you?" she asked her as she looked over the appetizers one last time before she settled on the trio: mozzarella sticks, potatoes skins, and mild wings. "What's up?" she asked sitting her menu down.
Simone gazed at Rebecca, shaking her head. "No..." she licked her lips slowly as she leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table, head in her hands. "Nothing..."
Rebecca smiled at Simone. "Oh, is that so?" she asked her watching her closely.
Simone nodded slightly, tilting her head as she looked at Rebecca. "Yeah..." Shifting slightly, Simone glanced around before looking back at Rebecca. "What are you majoring in?"
Rebecca nodded at Simone, slouching down a little in her chair adjusting the hat on her head, moving her hands into the pockets of her sweatpants. "Cardiology," she said licking her lips as she dropped her head. "It's interesting… I think that’s why I actually like to study so much," she said softly.
Simone tucked her lips in slightly, listening to Rebecca, shocked. "Really?" she asked with a chuckle. "I would have never guessed," she said honestly. "I understand that though, at home, I can't keep my nose out of a book."
"Why did that surprise you?" Rebecca asked her slightly confused. "You like reading?" she asked shocked herself.
Simone shrugged slightly. "I didn't peg you for the doctor type." Looking at Rebecca, Simone nodded. "I do... all kinds of books really, not just my study material.
"You must not know," Rebecca said tilting her head. "Sam has a heart condition… I mean I rushed to the hospital the other night and really didn't tell you why," she said sighing. "He's my motivation, I am my brother’s keeper," she trailed off. "Favorite Author?" she asked her intrigued.
Simone looked at Rebecca intently as she spoke about Sam and she dropped her gaze for a moment before looking back up. "I had no idea… is he okay?" she asked concerned, nodding understandingly at Rebecca. Simone blushed slightly, sitting back slowly as she mumbled. "John Green..."
"He doesn't tell people, I'm sure Mercedes just found out herself," Rebecca said shrugging. "He's okay… over working himself is all. He'll be released Sunday or Monday, I'm sure. They just want to make sure his test come back clean." She spoke fluently medicine being an intriguing conversation for her, her passion shining through. "I mean there are so many test they go through, him going home before all of them return could result in a heart attack… stroke… you never know," she continued. "Really? I am a Stephen King fan myself," she chuckled, "John Green is good too," she admitted.
Simone nodded slowly, biting her lip. "I understand why," she said softly, tucking some of her hair back. "That's good... I know Mercedes must have shat a brick," she said with a small laugh before she focused right back on what Rebecca was saying. "Whoa... well I pray nothing too serious happens next..." she said honestly. She didn't like Sam, but she didn't wish poor health on him. Nodding, Simone looked at Rebecca through her eyelashes. "Stephen's work is just a little too much for me..." she said honestly with a small smile.
"Thanks," Rebecca said nodding. "Yeah he's pretty… out there," she agreed. "Not as subtle, I get that," she said gazing at Simone. "Twenty questions?" she asked actually wanting to get to know more leaning in a little.
Simone nodded, "it's nothing..." she said waving Rebecca off. “Yeah..." she hummed out with a light chuckle. Hearing Rebecca, Simone's eyebrows twitched in shock and she leaned forward again, leaning against the table. "Okay, you first."
"Okay," Rebecca said softly thinking to herself for a moment before she finally asked her question. "What do you want most out of life?" she asked looking right into Simone's eyes.
Simone looked right at Rebecca, curious to see what she came up with. At her question, Simone rolled her tongue over her lips slowly, staying quiet as she thought deeply about her answer. "Happiness," she breathed. "If anything I just want to be happy, whatever that means for me. Whether it's married with kids or single with a job that I love... I just want to be happy, with no regrets."
Rebecca nodded at Simone's answer. "Your turn," she said just as their waiter walked over to ask them for their drink orders and Rebecca ordered herself a beer before the waiter turn to Simone.
Simone bit her lip gently, thinking about her question before she asked, "can you have emotional intimacy without physical intimacy?" As their waiter approached, Simone waited for Rebecca to order before she requested her own drink. "Iced tea, please."
Rebecca thought about Simone's question for a while and she waited until their waiter walked away to reply. "I don't know… probably not. I mean at my age either you have someone or you don't," she shrugged, "and I've never… tried to separate the two honestly…" she trailed off.
Simone stared up at their waiter, until he walked away, moving her eyes back to Rebecca. Letting out a soft breath, Simone nodded slowly, nibbling her lip. "Your turn..."
"What's your opinion of me?" Rebecca asked, curious to see what she would have to say.
Simone looked into Rebecca's eyes, staring intently for a while before finally she spoke. "I think you're misunderstood..." she said honestly, "and maybe... that's the reason why you're so..." she trailed off trying to find the right word, "callous... I guess..." she licked her lips, "but I think beneath that exterior... you could actually be really sweet and caring..."
Rebecca eyebrows rose to her hairline. "Oh," she said shocked as she looked to Simone.
Simone tilted her head slightly, "Oh?" she repeated her own eyebrows rising slightly. "Same question."
"Just… oh," Rebecca said shaking her head a little. "Uh… vicious," she said out right. "Confused..." she said honestly.
Simone sat back at that, her eyebrows furring slightly. "Vicious?" she asked shocked, "confused?"
"You attacked Jessica… not saying she didn't deserve it but you could've walked away. You are way to pretty to try and fight everyone you come across," Rebecca shrugged. "Confused… because you don't really know what this is," she gestured around them, "what are we doing right now?" she asked, "and that wasn't one of my other questions," she quickly said.
Simone licked her lips as she folded her arms over her chest, knowing Rebecca was right. "I'm a bit of a hot-head. I'll give you that..." she said softly, "she came at me foul though... not the other way around... I just finished the situation before she could get started." Looking up at Rebecca, Simone shook her head. "I know exactly what I'm doing. I actually think you're the one confused." Shifting slightly, she rubbed her fingers through her hair. "You tell me," she said arching an eyebrow. "Do you believe in God?"
Rebecca gazed at Simone listening to her as she spoke and she furrowed her brows looking down. She licked her lips scratching her temple slightly, "I don't believe in much of anything," she said honestly.
Simone looked at Rebecca, nodding slowly. When their waiter returned with their drinks Simone thanked him before she told him her food order. She looked to Rebecca to order her own food before she licked her lips, waiting for her next question.
Rebecca nodded towards the waiter as he sat her beer down. Rebecca sipped from it before she ordered the appetizer trio and she watched their waiter leave once more.
Simone picked up her iced tea, sipping it slowly as she gazed at Rebecca.
"Can't think of anything," Rebecca lied picking her beer back up chugging down half.
Simone nodded slowly as he sipped her tea before she sat the glass down, glancing around the restaurant. "Why do you like me, want me, or whatever?"
Rebecca shrugged. "I already told you why," she reminded Simone.
Simone let out a small huff. "My body..." she nodded with a slight eye roll.
"No I never told you that," Rebecca snapped. "I said you were beautiful Simone," she corrected.
Simone licked her lips slowly. "The beauty you see is equivalent to just that..."
"Wow." Rebecca nodded at her, licking her lips. "You do this thing where you fucking say shit like that to try to turn me off and push me aside… it won't work…" she trailed off. "Stop that shit for real, it's not cute," she snapped. "If I said you are beautiful, dammit, I mean it," she said seriously.
Simone sat slightly shocked. "What else can you be talking about outside of my appearance?" she asked honestly, serious as well. "You can't be talking about my intelligence or my personality, because you just called me vicious."
"You win again," Rebecca said throwing up her hands as she slid back down in her seat drinking down her beer.
Simone let out a deep sigh as she picked her iced tea back up, sipping it. She stared Rebecca down before she looked around asking. "What do you want from me?"
"Nothing." Rebecca threw up her hand pulling out her phone shooting a text and just all around ignoring Simone.
Simone arched an eyebrow at Rebecca, sitting her glass down as she leaned forward, snatching the phone from her hand.
Rebecca looked to Simone angrily. "Give it back Simone," she said lowly.
Simone shook her head at Rebecca, tossing the phone on the table as she stood, moving to the bathroom.
Rebecca snatched her phone up growling as her blood boiled ready to leave and go home.
Simone walked into the bathroom and pushed into one of the stalls. She handled her business before she stepped out the stall and washed her hands, leaning against the counter with a huff as she dried them.
Rebecca rolled her eyes as she scrolled through her phone finishing off her beer, gladly accepting as their waiter asked and brought her a second beer.
Simone tossed her paper towel into the trash and let out a deep sigh as she walked out the bathroom, moving back to the table. She sat down across from Rebecca, reaching down to pull her phone from her purse, siting back as she moved to text one of her roommates.
Rebecca sipped from her newer beer bottle pushing the other aside as Simone returned. She sat back sitting her phone down on the table.
Simone text her roommate back and forth for a few minutes before she sat her phone down on the table and picked up her glass, sipping her tea as she looked around the restaurant.
Rebecca sat tapping her foot as she waited for her food, leaning back in her chair, sighing loudly before she yawned out.
Simone crossed her feet at her ankles as she sat back, waiting for their food.
"I am so ready to go home," Rebecca mumbled as she laid her head back against the chair.
Simone ignored Rebecca as she shifted in her seat, sipping her tea. She tapped her fingers against the table with her freehand and let out a small huff before rubbing her fingers through her hair.
"Soo ready," Rebecca said sighing as she stuffed her hands into her pockets.
Simone noticed their waiter moving towards them with a tray of food and Simone sat up a little straighter, reaching into her purse for her wallet. As the waiter sat their plates down on the table Simone asked for a to-go box and the check.
Rebecca watched Simone and licked her lips as the waiter look to her and she asked for a to-go box as well.
Simone watched their water closely as he nodded at them and move to get what they'd requested. Simone picked up one wing from her plate and nibbled at it lightly as she waited.
"What are you doing?" Rebecca sighed annoyed at her own self. "You are hungry so we should just stay so that you can eat," she said lowly gaze fixed on the table.
"Preparing to leave," Simone answered back easily as she nipped at her chicken before she rose her eyes to look at Rebecca. "You want to go, so let’s go..."
"No, I want you let me get to know you and be with you without pushing me away all the time," Rebecca said gazing at her.
"I'm not pushing you away," Simone said softly.
"Yes you are," Rebecca said nodding.
"No, I'm not," Simone replied quickly.
"Yes you are… what do you call it then?" Rebecca asked her curiously.
"I'm not," Simone said shaking head. "I don't call it anything because I'm not doing anything."
"Are you actually serious or crazy?" Rebecca asked her.
Simone rolled her eyes. "You tell me what I'm doing then!"
"Making problems where there aren't any!" Rebecca pointed out. "You always push and throw out my advances, why?" she asked her. "If you don't like me why do you even want to go places with me… hell why talk to me?" she asked her.
Simone threw her hands up, "what are you talking about?!" She snapped getting frustrated. "I'm not pushing out anything! I just saying what we both know! You're trying to sugar coat it and make it cute, but it is exactly what it is!" she huffed out. "I never said I didn't like you. You assume that I'm afraid or that I'm just giving you the run around. Get the fuck out my head because you don't know what I'm thinking!"
Rebecca gazed at Simone hard as she went off and she grabbed her to-go box from the waiter tossing her food inside without another word.
Simone huffed, chest rising and falling rapidly as she took the box from the waiter and shoveled her food into it. Closing it up she picked up the bill and pulled out enough money to pay her way, plus a tip before she stood with her box, snatching up her purse and phone as she moved to exit the restaurant.
Rebecca watched Simone and she grabbed a few dollars off her money clip sitting it aside ignoring a tip. She grabbed her food and phone moving to her car. Rebecca unlocked her door sliding the key in and she hoped in sitting her stuff down taking her time to unlock the whole car.
Simone swiftly move out the restaurant and stood beside the passenger door of Rebecca's car, tapping her foot impatiently as she waited.
Rebecca closed her door looking over to Simone gazing at her as her hand rested on the unlock button.
Simone gazed at Rebecca before she turned on her heels, moving towards the street. Once Simone realized what direction to walk in she began to move that way, walking swiftly into the night.
Rebecca watched Simone and turned her car on driving off and out of the parking lot. She drove pass the girl headed back to her apartment without a second glance.
Simone walked down the street, not even looking at Rebecca's car as it passed her. She took her phone and began scrolling through numbers until she found a taxi cab service, finding her own way back.
