Esther sat on the doorstep of Samuel’s house, smoking. It was an acquired habit, both from her cousin and college life. Summer couldn’t have come at a better time, considering she spent the last weeks of the semester surving off of cigarettes and energy drinks. The anxiety was back today ever since she woke up, knowing Isaac would be arriving in a few hours. She had offered to pick him up at the airport, but the boy had insisted on taking a cab, probably not wanting to be a nuisance or something in those lines. It hadn’t been so long since they last saw each other, only a couple of weeks since she drove down to visit him for a weekend, but it felt like a lifetime.
