Lost Locks || Gill & Elli
@gildedpages
Elli bit her lip as she watched the people unload from the ferry. Today she was to reunite with Gill after another year of him living on Leuda. He’d been visiting Arcadia more often in the later from when they were children. So many things had changed since then. Something as simple as a haircut, she thought to herself as she ran her hand through her short locks, can seem so drastic.
They lived different lives now. She knew through the letters they’d exchanged since he first moved twelve or so years ago. Each one was stashed in a special box she’d decorated, proudly displayed on her dresser. She looked forward to each letter he sent, telling her about the exciting life in Leuda and what he was up to. On more than one occasion when a letter was running late she worried about him losing interest in her and Arcadia. In comparison to the big city their island was pretty run of the mill. But Elli couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
And it was times like now, when she’s waiting for him to disembark from the boat, that she got lost in a mix of emotions. The excitement to see her best friend was self-explanatory, but there always that little fear in the back of her mind of when the day would come he didn’t think the same of her. He had a whole city of potential best friends. People that would be there for him everyday and flesh and blood. How can that compare to letters on a page?
She tried to prepare herself for the day when Gill stopped coming to visit Arcadia. But that could wait for another day because there he was stepping off the docks. Her excitment taking over she rushed to greet him
“Gill!” her shout was his only warning before she threw her arms around him in a huge hug, practically tackling the man. She made sure to give him a proper squeeze before looking up at him with a bright smile. “Welcome back!”
