Leon cannot believe his eyes. He's on his way to the scene of the fifth body, got stuck in traffic. There's a report about a missing police officer and he's almost there to check it out. The person of interest is standing right there on the street. He has someone hauled over his shoulder.
It's fucking bizarre. He thought he has lived long enough to see it all but this guy is audacious. There's no secrecy or shadows he's just walking out in the open. Worse than that. This former T-virus researcher is shooting something at innocent pedestrians.
It takes seconds for an outbreak to spark.
Leon steadily move against the tide of people rushing away from the chaos. It's urgent. He needs to hurry. Yet he slows to shoot down the recently infected — better to save as many people as he can, but this feels different.
It's a different virus. Some variant. These people manage to hold onto a small piece of themselves and it's a new form of torture having to gun them down. What if they could have been saved? It's difficult to reconcile with the fact that an innocent can be turned into a target in mere seconds.
He can't grapple with his own conscience. Not now. He pushes forward, gun steady. That's when he spots her. Someone running into a new hoard of infected. Everyone else is running away. "Hey! HEY!" He practically roars, to no effect.
Leon unholsters requiem and makes quick work of the mob ahead. He moves a little faster. More aggressive. His hatchet is out. He carves a quicker path forward. "You trying to get yourself killed?!"
