Mariah: was in her office trying to finish some work for her job when she heard the door and alarm beep. She smiled softly as she heard her husband's voice then walked down the stairs to meet him. "Hi." She smiled as she hugged him. "I lost track of time and didn't realize it was my day today. I missed you. How are you?"

Jasper: smiled as Mariah came down to meet him. He grinned, "Hello, love." He hugged her back before leaning in and pecking her lips softly. "I missed you too, princess. I even got you a present." He smiled and kissed her again. "Good, now that I'm home." He said against her lips with a grin.

Cora had counted three exits; the elevator and two flights of stairs. There could be four if she considered flinging herself out of the window as one. It was only a couple hours in and she already wanted it to be over and done. If she had her way, she would be sitting at her desk in the precinct, case files surrounding her as she pieced together clues and worked to solve crimes and bring in the bad guys. That was who she was, not gowns and galas. 

At least Jasper was here with her. Cora hadn’t wanted to deal with the extra pressure of bringing an actual date to this thing so of course the two of them had come together. Besides, if she wasn’t there to help hold him together, with undead ex-husbands and such walking around, god only knew what would happen tonight. 

“You need to calm down,” she said as she approached him with another drink and handed it over. “This,” Cora also quickly adjusted his tie, “is the one night a year that we’re all really supposed to keep our shit together.”
