@galaxiacolibri cont. from here
Neoma was usually a multi-cup-a-day coffee drinker, having two cups before she even began her day. "I might take you up on a second cup," she told him, entirely knowing she would.
"I have zero plans. There are things I need to do, yes, but I'm not planning to do them." Neoma smiled softly and shrugged. "I'll decide after coffee."
She watched Farrar as she sipped the coffee. "Mm, what about you?"

Neoma closed her eyes and took a few breaths to further calm herself. She visualized the weight of the bad emotions slipping away with every stroke of the brush. Soon, her body fully relaxed, all the tension from the day and the crush of everyone else's emotional baggage fading.
Usually, when they did this little nighttime ritual, taking turns brushing one another's hair, they'd talk about their day, plans they made for the future, what groceries they needed at the store. Tonight, however, neither of them said much. It happened like that sometimes, with bad days. The quiet in itself wasn't so strange, but Rogue had been brushing her hair for longer than usual.
Not wanting to read her girlfriend's emotions to find a clue, Neoma went with the direct route. "Everything okay? My hair can't be that tangled." Not that she minded the brushing at all.
“Are you okay?” (Caleb to Neoma)

"I think so..."
To be honest, Neoma wasn't entirely sure. Physical pain didn't register yet, not with the panic that had, much like the stranger, slammed into her. She took the offered hand to pull herself up, eyes following the man as he quickly rounded a corner and disappeared.
The panic she gleaned from him, however, stuck around.
Her heart raced, chest tight, hands trembling "I'm okay," Neoma managed, looking at the other stranger who had offered help. "Thanks, that was—"
Then a realization came to her and her eyes widened. Her stomach dropped. Quickly, she drew her crossbody bag around and did a quick check. Phone, wallet, keys, paperback book, make-up compact, lip gloss—everything accounted for. She hadn't been pick-pocketed. What a relief.
Neoma exhaled slowly, the panic beginning to ebb away. Concern slipped in instead. She turned blue-green eyes back to the friendly stranger and offered a weak smile.
"Thank you. For the help."
"I never want to see you hurt. Not even a bruise." (( this is also spicy to me sfkljsd feyd for neoma! ))

Well, there was a bruise on her cheek, and a cut on her lip but those physical hurts were nothing compared to the ache in her chest where sorrow had burrowed in. Anger had certainly left its mark, but it was that sorrow that would leave the worst scars. And the emotions that caused it weren't even hers.
Gods, how she hated the way they lingered, stuck with her. She felt foolish for letting her powers take control of her, hated how it made her reckless, heedless of danger, self-destructive. Feyd could keep her safe from those hunting her, but he couldn't keep her safe from herself.
Neoma kept her eyes down and said, in a soft voice, the only words that came to her,
"I'm sorry."
'stay back.' (( feyd for neoma! ))

Stay back.
Questions pressed against the tip of her tongue, but none of them came out.
Why? What is it?
Neoma pushed outward, sensing, trying to read an emotion or two to gauge what was happening, why Feyd blocked her view. She felt... nothing. Or, no, not nothing. Definitely something off—very off.
"What—?"

"What?"
Neoma touched her face and winced as fresh pain stabbed through her cheek. Her fingers came away red and wet. Her brow furrowed.
"Oh. I had no idea," she said, dazedly.

"Oh, I have no doubt you can." A lot of people somehow managed to function almost normally despite illness or pain. She would know; she was one of them. "I think a wiser choice would be to stay home. Rest and relax and, most importantly, not spread around whatever you've got. You might be able to handle today, but someone else might not be when they wake up sick tomorrow."
Neoma smiled gently though. "Just erring on the side of caution. Think about it at least."
