It was her fault. Generally speaking, she didn’t perform spells on a whim. She had quite an array of abilities that nullified the need for spellcasting, but now and again Ree wanted to do something… different. And teleportation was very different. It required concentration, the right words, and a great deal of intention. She thought she had those—she really did—but whether her intentions were ill or her concentration weak she would never know.
The spell dropped her far from where she intended to go, leaving her disheveled and disoriented. She blinked several times, peering at the stranger with dark, bleary eyes. Then she turned, leaned over, and heaved. Her stomach was empty and nothing came up, but the nausea was strong and lingered.
“Oh. Oh, that’s not pleasant,” she murmured, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand then tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. “I’m fine. I’m fine, I think. Just a little… confused.” Ree straightened her back, blinking rapidly in an attempt to get her bearings. “Where am I?”
