It was an absolutely childish notion to be afraid of basements. Even the dank one that sat beneath the halls of the school weren't haunted. Because hauntings required ghosts to be real. The worst that was likely to be down there was spiders. Yet he was idly rooted to the spot at the top of the stairs, dawdling as much as he could.
Frankly, A hadn't known there was a basement beneath Wammy House. Then again he'd never quite thought about it. It made sense, likely just used for storage like every other underground dwelling was. It also made sense it would be locked until someone had decided to let himself in.
His nose scrunched as his fingers grazed cobweb over the light switch. That turned into a full grimace when it proved to not even work, leaving the seemingly endless void of darkness to continue.
His other hand folded around the crumpled note in his pant pocket as if it'd bring comfort- a silly notion considering the damned thing was why he was here at all. Well, no, that wasn't quite true. He'd gotten himself into the mess by idle chit-chat some days prior where he'd so brazenly said most things no longer disturbed him as they had in childhood. He really only had himself to blame for instigating B's irritating joy of doing everything in his power to unnerve him.
"B?" He loathed the way his voice rattled from his chest and into the depths, to nothingness. Of course there was no answer.
He rolled his eyes at himself and began the descent, clinging to the rickety handrail at his side. He just needed to get it over with and either prove he wasn't afraid or give B the satisfaction of victory by admitting his unease. Either way, he wanted it to be done quick.
"B, you best actually be here or i'm going to be cross for wasting my time coming here."
