Lyra had barely been conscious for the game with Darby, she hadn’t ever been good at games involving races. But she was always good at video games and always been competitive and she had gotten out just after Kakoyin.
She might have done better if not for seeing him go limp like that, his eyes rolling back. His head hitting the table like a sack of bricks. The way he collapsed slammed into her heart like a goddamned freight train. It was just like how her father had went, cold and limp.
Someone who was so strong gone so fast and she couldn't do anything about it. She thought about never listening to Sting with him. Or get to watch Sumo with him in his hotel room or watch him paint ever again, They would never get to go to the same places without the threat of DIO or stand users after them.
He would just be gone, like a bright star that would burn out the fastest she had ever seen. He didn't deserve that, hell he didn't deserve to be here dealing with DIO. He deserved the world and more and she was grateful that she got to even orbit around him.
He was always too hard on himself and she wanted to always be there to remind him that he was loved and cherished in everything he did.

When the game was over and he was okay she didn't even think about the way that she reacted. She had no concern for her own safety or her own return, Just that he was okay, that meant things were going to be alright.
As soon as she could walk again she didn't think about what she was going to do next. She rushed up to Kakoyin like a stumbling baby deer and pulled him in for a hug before she spoke "Don't do that again okay?, I cant afford to lose you" She stood in the hug for a long few awkward seconds not releasing until the last possible second.
