Dante was tired. No, that didn't feel like it truly covered it. Not that saying that he felt exhausted to his bones really did his tiredness justice either, but that felt closer to the truth than simple tiredness. It was the sixth night in a row that he spent all of his time after work trying to push as much information into his head as he possibly could, though he wasn't sure to what success to actually was. He would have three tests the next night during his classes and he could only hope that he could at least pass them.
That was his goal in every class, every test. Nothing more than to pass. That is all he needed and all he could actually manage, and still, he felt like he might be passing in his classes but failing as a dad. He was trying his best, but he was sure if he added up the time he spent with his son in the last few days, it wouldn't add up to too high of an hour count. He felt horrible about it, just like he felt horrible about making Carmella work all these extra hours, but it was still the best chance he got.
He was on the couch, a book half-open on his stomach, Dante passed out from sheer exhaustion in the middle of the topic he was studying when he felt somebody trying to shake him awake and he jolted up, the book falling off of him, down onto the floor with a thud while he needed a few moments to take in the fact that it was Carmella standing over him, trying to shake him up from his slumber, probably ready to leave for the night finally.
“Fudge, did I fall asleep again?” he asked as he rubbed his face, the fake cursing coming onto his mouth automatically now, even though Marti clearly wasn't around now. “Did you put him down to bed? Did everything go okay?”
