Any and all parties deserved good alcohol, so for the candy store owner, Jurriaan had prepared a couple of nice cocktails and mocktails, making them on request with what little supplies he had taken along. He enjoyed parties, he enjoyed being the centre of attention when he served alcohol. More importantly, he enjoyed the looks on people’s faces when they could not help but love his concoction. “What can I make you?” He asked a party goer who seemed a little down on her luck.

Kayce looked up as Gracie drew in closer, voicing her question that quickly earned a snicker from Kayce. “You know…” he started, pondering her question with amusement. “I think that sounds like a great idea.” He grinned, “pink is Rip’s favorite color after all, did you know that?”
The young child’s face absolutely lit up at Kayce’s response. As much as she adored Rip, she definitely liked to push the limits on how much she could possibly annoy him before he’d snap. “Oh, absolutely his most favouritest...” she agreed, despite knowing that pink was not in fact Rip’s favourite colour, “And he just loves sparkles and glitter, y’know? If anyone asks though... It was Beth, not us...”

“–Swanky?” Jamie repeated with a hint of confusion in his voice, picking out the word in that sentence that he was most unfamiliar with. God, some days he really felt like an old man. Granted, he wasn’t exactly as young as he once had been, but it seems that he couldn’t keep up with the lingo that kids these days used to express themselves. “What does Swanky mean, Gracie?” He asked the small child, offering her a gentle smile.
Grace looked up at the smart dressed Dutton, her brows angled slightly and her expression almost silently asked Jamie if he were stupid. A low sigh escaped the child’s lips as though she were long suffering due to Jamie’s question before she seemed to steel herself prior to speaking up. “Yes, Jamie... Swanky,” she said, a hint of exasperation colouring the childs tone as she shook her head at him, “You know, like fancy, smart. I’m sure you’re not used to them, but it was a compliment...” she told him.

“the jace khouri, fresh off his tour and already slinging drinks at sullivan’s pub in cape hazel, maine. celebrities really are just like us.” grace raised an eyebrow at jace and chuckled as she gracefully swung her legs over a barstool, sitting up straight across from him. “do they make a good gin and tonic though, is the question.”

she doesn’t need to overthink this. nope, not at all. in the weeks since that fateful encounter in their work car park, sex has become the most consistent thing between them. it wasn’t something that she’d planned --- in fact, she’d been entirely content to continue denying her attraction to him and carry on as she usually would with any other one night stand. that plan hadn’t even lasted a day before she’d found herself in her office, door locked, with his head between her thighs. sex has always been something she was casual with, but one night stands were usually as far as it went these days. it’s why her arrangement with him is already an exception, but sex is all it is. and if she’d happen to sleep over last night, it’s purely because she’d drank too much wine last night and it now being saturday meant she could sleep in.
it had nothing to do with the company.
she stirs at the smell of something delicious coming from the kitchen, yawning as she pushed herself into a sitting position and stretched. there’s a familiar ache and soreness in her body, causing the corner of her mouth to tick upwards as she remembers last night. one of the perks of their arrangement being more than a one time thing is that he already knows the basics of what she likes without her having to say a word. if the side effects of that included it being a little difficult for her to walk the next day, she’ll take it as the win that it is.
finally slipping out of his bed, she pulls on a discarded shirt of his and makes a quick trip to the bathroom before padding her way out to the kitchen. the sight of him standing there, cooking in the morning after she’s spent the night is so domestic that she has to tear her eyes away and shift them to the coffee pot instead. “morning.” she starts rifling through his cupboards until she pulls out a mug. “i’m stealing your coffee before i go.” ( @wolfwritings )

Grace always felt like she was going home when she went to the library. A place that’s main purpose was to collect and make books available for the public couldn’t possibly be a bad place, and she’s spent countless hours in different ones during her entire life. There were even parts of her life when it felt like the library was her entire life – during exam period in her university years she was practically the first one to arrive and the last to leave. She loved the atmosphere of the place and both studying and writing her essays there felt so much easier than if she stayed home and was surrounded by a bunch of distraction.
These days was a different kind of stress for Grace – coming up with good enough lesson plans for high schoolers that would get them to fall in love with history or at least make them see the beauty in it was hard, harder than she could have possibly expected –, and she usually came here to work on her lesson plans and to find gems that would teach her new things. This time she was there to find something interesting and fun to read. She already picked up a horror story from another shelf and now was perusing the shelves where the more detailed histories lied. She was looking for a specific book, but she was also keeping her eyes for anything that might catch her attention.
Shouts coming from the direction of the entrance broke the silence of the library and Grace snapped her head towards it with a frown on her face. What the hell was happening, did a couple of teenagers forgot where they were? She looked at the guy next to her and made a face. “They could really keep it down, huh?” she commented before she went back to the shelves and tried to ignore the noise and the shouting that somehow seemed to be getting closer and closer.
owen cross. ( @russowrites )
she hates this. she’s made it painfully clear from the start that she didn’t approve of the merge and that it was an utter waste of time. sure, it seemed good on paper and like it would benefit them in the long run, but later on it would likely cost them more money than it was worth. but why listen to her when they could instead listen to her mother, the great and legendary ellen kline who thought it was an exceptional idea. if ellen kline approved, then of course everyone else would suck up to her in order to stay in her good graces. it happens so often that grace isn’t even surprised anymore. her mother owned kline & co and just about everyone considered her to be one of the best lawyers and business women in the city, if not the country. that often lead to people agreeing with her opinion despite what it was, even if they themselves it was awful. it made her itch for a drink every time she witness yet another idiot sucking up to an awful idea.
it’s why she doesn’t make this easy on the other company. she wants them to back down, wants them to decide she’s too difficult to work with and just pack up shop --- especially that awfully smug asshole sitting opposite her. owen cross. the idiot that she was supposed to be working with in order to make this merger work, but she couldn’t take him seriously. “unless we want to go over our budget, then that’s not going to work.” she drawled out, fiddling with her pen and looking down at her own paperwork. in retrospect it could work, but she’d rather make him do all the work for a change. it’s petty and somewhat childish, she’s well aware, but she’s never been very good at sitting by and being passive when something was happening that she disagreed with. glancing at her watch, she looked up across the table. “it’s getting late and i can feel my brain cells dying by the minute. let’s call it a night.” she began organizing her own paperwork, wasting time as the others filed out and she prayed that not a single one of them would remain behind to question her.
