despite ariya having pushed pearce away since her latest diagnoses, he was still doing what he could to take care of her behind the scenes. as a therapist, he knew that she was coping the best way that she knew how but as her boyfriend, it wasn't something he could accept. pearce wasn't going to let her face any of this on her own. so, over the past couple of days, he got groceries delivered to her house, ones he knew she would be able to eat being as sick as she was. he was very mindful about what he bought for her.

after work though, he decided to check in on her for the first time since he'd dropped her off after the hospital visit. he assumed that he'd given her enough time and well, if he were being honest, he wanted to see her again. using his key to come into her home, he manuevered through until he found her. "ariya," he spoke softly, "how are you feeling, my love?"

the cool weather was beginning to take over and he hadn't noticed how much it'd changed until he was waiting outside of the coffee shop waiting for his best friend to meet up with him. pearce tucked one of his hands into his pocket while the other held onto the warm cup of coffee. exhaustion was pretty evident on his face due to everything going on with his girlfriend but even so, he didn't let that get him down. smiling softly at the sight of his best friend, her pulled his hand out of his pocket and pulled the other into a one armed hug. "long time, no see, huh? guess we've both been a little busy since that double date we went on. how have you been?"

"you know," the therapist started, "most of the time i would be looking forward to halloween but a part of me is thinking that the psycho going around wilmington and taking people is going to use the whole costume thing to their advantage." pearce wasn't normally so serious unless he was at work but people were genuinely getting hurt and he was concerned as to what was going to happen to a place he considered home. "i just think everyone should consider how much of a bad idea it is with everything going on. i know everyone has that mindset that it couldn't possibly happen to them but it very well could. it could happen to anyone."

while their schedules were sometimes opposite from each other, pearce didn't let that get him down. in fact, he just made it a goal to go out of his way whenever he could to see her. so, once he finished up the notes on his last session, pearce made his way to the closest coffee shop and picked his girlfriend up a pick me up before heading over to mercy general. he could already feel himself growing more excited the closer he got to the hospital and it was still crazy to him that ariya made him feel like a teenager.

after parking, he brought the paper bag that held the treat he picked up for her and grabbed the coffee cup before heading inside after texting her and telling her that he was there. while he would love to surprise her, he knew that walking around the hospital aimlessly looking for her might put him in an awkward decision. he managed to find a place to sit while he waited, periodically checking his phone. he knew that she was busy. of course he did and so he didn't want to be that guy, the one who seemed impatient when he wasn't but he couldn't help but follow up with a phone call after a little while, hoping that he wasn't interrupting things.

plopping next to his best friend at the bar stool next to him at tric, he flashed the man a small smile. "well, it's been a little while, hasn't it?" as bad as it sounded pearce had been tied up with ariya but he wanted to do whatever he could to make some time for irza too. his friend deserved that much. "you're going to have to catch me up on what you've been up to. i've got a lot to share myself but first, let me order a drink." waving the bartender over, he offered them a smile as he ordered his regular and turned to look over at irza. "so, go on. what've you been up to?"

pearce was very obviously having a hard day. he's spilled his coffee all over his shirt first thing this morning, ran over on a couple of his appointments and that put him behind schedule, and now he's managed to lock himself out of his house. groaning, he leaned back against his front door and slid down, his hands rubbing over his face. "this has got to be the most monday-est tuesday i've ever fucking experienced." he muttered and dropped his hands only for his eyes to meet hers. "you wouldn't know how to pick a lock would you? i really don't want to have to call a lock smith."

"camila," the man started, leaning toward her as the person on stage called their names, "don't make me do this by myself. i chose the perfect duo song and i can't do both parts on my own." how the two of them had ended up at mic drop karaoke was a mystery to him. regardless of that, he was here to have fun. there was no way pearce wasn't going to get up there at least once. "come on, they're waiting for us."

phone calls from home weren't exactly easy. that being for a number of reasons but the main reason was the fact that he missed his family. god, he couldn't believe he lived in a completely different country. he never thought that they'd be that far away. he was finishing up a conversation with his youngest sibling, who was catching him up on some accomplishments at their college and he wanted nothing more than to be there for them. "well, you know i'm always going to be proud of you." the conversation didn't last much longer and as he ended it, he noticed jemma. she was one of his clients and one he didn't mind too much. "sorry-" he paused shifting slightly out of the way of the entrance to the coffee shop, "i didn't mean to block you from going in. how are things, jemma?" there he went again. always avoiding his own troubles.
