Eryka Badu played quietly in the background as Elijah brushed a bit of gold shimmer along her cheek bones, first the right side then the left. A gentle grin of satisfaction spread across her face as she stared at her reflection. Make-up was never something Elijah had any interest in growing up but an older her found something soothing in the expression of painting and bejeweling one’s own face, plus she looked damn good. Ren was her dear friend and it seemed the other woman needed some grown up time. Time to reintroduce herself to herself and Elijah was more than happy to facilitate. Salem, the most majestic cat of all time as far as Elijah was concerned, jumped atop the stand alone vanity with a loud thump and soft purr. Elijah smiled wildly scratched the top of the cat’s head before picking up her phone. A quick text was sent, “Hey, Gorgeous. I’ll be there in 30 mins, I’m feeling fancy so I’m going to grab a Lyft.” Elijah took one last look at herself in in her little black bandaid dress and poppin’ curls and did a little twirl just for herself before heading down to the car.
What could have been an hour train ride ended up being a half hour car trip, no regrets.
It’d been a long time since she’d been out, and it just dawned on her that she was not only doing this for her friend, Elijah needed some fun as well. She practically ran (rather expertly in heels) up to Ren’s apartment. “Open the door, Goddess. It is time to forget all of your troubles and dance until you can’t dance anymore?”
