neither of them seem willing to admit that they know each other, which is for the best. everyone can remain oblivious to the tension that she suddenly feels, and she can just...exist in her own personal hell, apparently. her smile returns but it feels faker than ever, cheeks hurting as she gives him a firm handshake. "he hasn't?" she gives her date a playful look of surprise, jaw dropping dramatically. a soft (nervous) laugh passes through her lips as she turns her attention back to karl. "we haven't been dating for too long, but i-" she's cut off as someone else steals the attention of her date and he walks in another direction, claiming that he'll be back. which means that she's left alone with karl. her smile becomes a tight thing suddenly, grinning and bearing it as she stares awkwardly at him. the mask she's been wearing seems to slip away and her normal awkward self suddenly shines through, incapable to think of anything to fill the space between them. "so...that's your brother?" she eventually manages to get out, cringing as soon as she speaks.
