My Top 50 Short Length C-Dramas
9. Threads of Destiny 2025 Tencent Video 9.5/10
watching threads of destiny (Chinese short form drama) and omg the ML is so cool tossing his bow to shoot an arrow in this scene (albeit the drawing of the arrow/bowstring was kinda fake lol)
has spoilers for ep 14 below but the transitions for this series are surprisingly good!!
plot premise: FL and her sister both get reborn and the sister forces FL to switch grooms with her cause she screwed up her first life, all without knowing that FL was reborn too…face slapping commences
only con I’d say is the unbelievable amount of times FL gets framed for stuff she didn’t do, but that’s more or less the premise of shows like these so don’t think just have fun
The Cdrama I watched in my sem break before getting my degree!!
Drama:
1. Legend of Zang Hai - 5⭐
When I first tried to get back into the cdrama (after YEARS of stopping, the last time I watched was when I was 11), i couldn't get committed. I will watch the first episode before dropping it (cause I'm impatient af). But I stayed through the first three episodes with this show bc I really like Xiao Zhan (even tho just discovering him for a few weeks lmao) and I was not disappointed!!
This show helped me get back into the cdrama world. I love the characters, the visuals and the PLOT. God, it got me gripping my seat the whole time. I binged this in like 5 days, I was obsessed! I love the acting from the actor and the character he portrayed. Absolutely will rewatch this sometimes.
2. The Glory - 5⭐
This is basically a female version of Zang Hai lmao. But I absolutely ate it up. Zhuang Hanyan is such a badass, words can't describe how much of an icon she is. I absolutely adore her and the actress' performance deserves a standing ovation along with the mother of Zhuang Hanyan (I forgot the name sorry!)
I love the family drama, the characters dynamic with each other and the Mother's story got me WEEPING. It was phenomenal and the female relationship by the end is just so lovely to watch. I was like; I LOVE WOMEN SM the whole episodes. Bc I just recently got back into cdrama I didn't know who Chen Duling is but I'm definitely paying more attention to her after this! Such a great actress! (+I'm considering staring Fang of Fortune bc my sister said she's in it).
Nirvana in Fire - 5⭐
Probably the last drama I'd ever watch until my next sem break but I absolutely adore this?! I cried the whole day at the ending and then cried some more after running to ao3 for some fix it (spoiler, I didn't find one). I love Mei Changsu SO MUCH and Jingyan got my full heart, MY BABY. When I tell you that there is not ONE boring episode, every scene and eps got me hooked instantly. Would rewatch again after a long time.
Just noticed all my full length dramas are 5 stars bc I would drop it if I dislike it even a little lmao. I don't have commitment enough to watch thing i don't like fully.
Short drama:
1. Threads of Destiny - 4.75 ⭐
I love it!! I love the FL in particular bc she's so cheeky and unfazed but extremely cunning and brilliant. I don't particularly care about the romance (although it IS sweet and well done) and I kinda stop watching after they confirm they're in love w/ each other bc I got bored with lovey dovey thing but I picked it back after a few weeks and just reminded by how amazing it is. Very well acted and produced!
2. Returned Master - 4⭐
Give me a bromance that borderline romance and I'd lap it up any time. The ending made me cry so hard and I adore the 2 leads!! I love the trope that was used (revenge, hidden identity) but there are some aspects that got me scratching my head. Also, I hate Little Walnut, which makes me want to choke her character sm every time she's on screen even tho I'm pretty sure we're supposed to love her.
Unfinished (but mostly watched):
1. Blossom: 4.75 ⭐
Actually so, so engrossed in the drama and it was so good!! The FL is incredible and I love the actress!! But I stopped bc I was watching this w/ my sister and she was busy with an interview so while waiting I started The Glory and I just couldn't go back to Blossom after I finished with it! I always prefer the darker vibe like The Glory and just couldn't immerse into Blossom afterwards. I lost interest after the leads got married and in love (I always stop watching a show after the ship was established lmao).
The drama is great but my mistake is starting The Glory in the middle of it huhu.
2. The Untamed - 4.75⭐
This is actually the first drama I tried to commit to during my break and I love it! Esp the characters, they're all so precious! (I have an incredible bias for Jiang Cheng). But I found the first few episodes very slow but when things actually get going I stopped watching after the Lotus Piers massacre bc I know everything would got absolutely worst and I just couldn't do it 😭😭. It's entirely my fault really, I just couldn't watch it if I know bad things will happen for a long term.
3. Rise of Phoenixes - 4.5⭐
You don't understand my beloved Ning Yi like I do. I LOVE HIM SM UGH. Till today I'm still yearning to watch him on my screen but I stop watching — you guessed it — when he and Feng Zhi Wei got together. I love the plots and the politics, I love Nign Yi, in particular. Of how complex his character is and how absolutely unhinged and dramatic he acted sometimes. He has my utter attention. This drama in theory has everything I love; revenge, politics, rise in power and smart lead and great slow burn romance. But I drop it bc
a) the romance, as stated. I love the romance actually, they got me giggling and rooting for them. But it's just in my DNA to stop watching after they're established. b) bc I know it has a sad ending and the point where I dropped it is going to the devastating arc where everything will go wrong and I just couldn't watch it unfold. c) they're start focusing more on this one plot about the Orphan of smthg and I HATE that plot.
I'm still really invested in Ning Yi's story so maybe I'd pick it up somewhere in the future.
4. Guardian of Dafeng - 3⭐
It's really funny and entertaining and I love the ml sm he's hilarious and badass and wickedly smart. But I don't think this is completely my genre to be watching 50+ eps of it and after bingeing the first few eps it becomes kind of dense to me. I dropped it after they introduced the FL bc I was so annoyed at her character I just couldn't imagine going through anymore eps that contain her.
5. Kill to Love - 3⭐
I stopped watching at 10/12 just bc I saw how it ends and didn't see the point to continue. It's good and I like the arc in the final 4 eps but not memorable to me.
Am once again getting inspiration for alterations for this show from C-dramas as this is exactly the kind of setup I would've loved for Selim.
Plus like?
Let the princes/sultans be smart enough to realize they need their own intelligence networks, I swear.
Can honestly say that I wasn't expecting to get hit with a LZH proverb drop here, but maybe I should've.
Low key been waiting on this kind of mentality from a female lead? Like, screw desiring your affections, I need your status, buddy.
