The reason most indie novels are written like the author is terrified of doing something wrong is because the overwhelming majority of indie novelists get their start by networking in the violent panopticon of the social media indie publishing community, which favours the people who are able to win at the social policing game.
Okay so this comment got me googling because I hadn't heard of Isabel Fall
And if you also hadn't heard of her go read this because uhh... Holy Shit
I had heard of the whole messed up situation with this story, but I hadn't ever read the synopsis of the story before, and WOW
This story sounds like it could have been a brilliant exploration of gender and warfare and violence but instead it was attacked by people who didn't know how to confront a story that made them uncomfortable, and the author faced horrible consequences.
It's so important to be able to deal with stories that give you uncomfortable feelings in other ways than just attacking it. Being shown new perspectives sometimes has feelings of discomfort because it's an unfamiliar way of seeing the world.
You can read it Here

Holy shit.
Holy shit.
For the love of God, please read this story. It is so fucking good in ways that I can't even begin to articulate.
Idk like maybe it's hitting me really hard for some weird reason today but there is so much to chew on in this story that I feel like it's still in the process of downloading itself into my brain. And the writing is so, so good.
Ren Susu: of course I am not in love with him lmao also Ren Susu, bleeding from a bullet wound in the snow and presumably fighting multiple fractures: *reaches out to pick up the flower Murong Qingyi gave to her before she shot herself*
han yoojin: im sick of this! you know what?
han yoojin: everyone, names in the hat, right now!
han yoojin: whoevers name gets picked out of this, im using your black card for the week and you'll just have to deal with it!!
song taewon, watching as everyone begrudgingly put their names into the hat: han yoojin whatever your personal thoughts you should never hold someone financially hostage
kim sunghan: financially hostage? that'd probably be easier to explain
song taewon: ? what do you-
han yoojin: yoo myeongwoo, you're up!! hand over the black card and no one gets hurt
yoo myeongwoo: YESSSSSSSS
han yoohyun: FUCK
song taewon: ...ah.

as a child i assumed that martha’s vineyard was a fancy private vineyard owned by martha stewart and the reason rich people vacationed there was because they were friends with martha

every moment of every day i am thinking about this tiktok
Lumpfish come in a variety of shapes and colors.
[He scoops up the fish, it spits water and he turns it toward the camera]
This one is stumpy and green. Very beautiful, very powerful.
[He picks up another fish and turns it toward the camera]
This is what a normal lumpfish looks like. It is more elongated, but still a vibrant blue color. Very beautiful, very powerful.
[He picks up another fish and turns it toward the camera]
This is one of the stumpiest ones we have. Its hump is very high. It is very stumpy, but yet very beautiful, and very powerful.
[He pans over a lot of fish, all looking up at the camera]
My fish army is ever growing, and soon I will over throw the world. Very beautiful, very powerful.
because of this tiktok, i frequently murmur "very beautiful, very powerful" at myself, and i cannot recommend it enough.
why did they start breeding busses to have flat faces. they can't breathe
if you think this
looks better than this
you're part of the problem. I'm so tired of all the excuses like "oh they look cuter!" "why do you care?" THEY CAN'T BREATHE. People intentionally breeding these vehicles to give them health problems because they "like how it looks" makes me so mad
Actually, flat faced buses can breathe fine! This is a case of convergent evolution, but the two types of buses are not genetically related.
Pointed nose buses are decended from trucks, and have their engines located in the front. This requires the larger nose in order to provide the space for the engine as well as adequate ventilation.
Meanwhile, flat nosed buses are actually descended from city buses (which in turn descend from trolleys), and were domesticated due to their greater maneuverability and capacity.
Contrary to popular belief, flat nosed busses typically do not experience breathing problems. Their engines are located in the back of the bus, with a large breathing vent located in the rear.
These buses also have a different structure to accommodate this change, typically including doubled back tires, a different weight distribution, and a change in location of the emergency egress door from the back to the left side.
If only pugs could breathe through their butt too :((
