Monday had me like... 😐 One of the few species of armadillo that can close all the way into a “ball” - The three-banded armadillo knows how to close out the rest of the world. The “shell” is actually bony plates covered in skin & keratin and it is very much part of the armadillos body.... And guess wha!? That “shell” can also be used as a defensive weapon! When under attack the three-banded armadillo will ball up. Classic move, right? But sometimes they mix it up and leave a little opening big enough for a predator to put a paw or nose in. As the predator tries to pry the shell of the armadillo open, the little armadillo will close down with painful force! Not today predator.
