Sometimes you just need a pick-me-up. And, then in comes @stumptowncoffee with a glass bottle option so I am able to dodge the paper cup/plastic lid waste! I want to repurpose this glass when I get home, any ideas? This bag of coconut was already in my fridge when I began the transition to zero-waste. I don't believe in being hard on yourself when you are trying your best to make better choices. DRYER BALLS! THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID. these reduce drying time and electricity at the laundromat. No more sheets for my family; we drop rosemary and lavender essential oils in these bad boys and poof! Our linens and clothes smell BEAUITFUL. These balls last for a years! Also, I spent a lot of time trying to learn about zero-waste options for all the items in my life, but that was all theoretical. Now that I'm implementing all of this I still make mistakes. I don't expect to be perfect on the first try. The important part is that every time we go to repurchase items we consider how many resources were consumed to deliver a seemingly simple product to our local stores. I nourished my body with #vegetarian #vegan diet for quite some years in the past, but lately I have consumed meat almost six times a week. Not only does the packaging stink (plastic and styrofoam) but the amount of water it takes to feed an animal just to deliver meat to our plates is unbelievable. California declared a state of emergency with the drought yet the meat industry has kept this issue hush hush. For now I am transitioning back to a vegetarian diet, but I may still choose to try a special dish while traveling. Uuum, like am I the only one whose recycling bin has shrunk lately?! Just joshing. Recycling and repurposing materials are a great alternative to throwing them in a landfill. I started this project for myself, but I'm sharing because I want to demonstrate zero-waste transitions that are affordable and appeal to as many people as possible. I want to share a few facts about this idea/project #thriveandgrind with you all! First of all, THANK YOU to all the people who already follow this page (I am also on Twitter, tumblr and snapchat)! I am transitioning into a zero-waste lifestyle, which is something I have wanted to do for a while! Between living with others and sometimes doubting that I could do this, I took longer than I wanted to start up. BUT! During those months of hesitation I was also busy learning about all things zero-waste: composting, what products already exist, and how every product in my life needs to be analyzed. I am especially interested in the process it takes to manufacture a product and how water/electricity/resource intensive it really is to deliver a product to the consumer. The truth lies behind the curtain for me. Zero waste pinto beans with a *catch. The market near my house has bulk beans so I reuse the same plastic produce bag over and over and over instead of getting a new bag every time!
