Hello! I recently hit 5k and I was trying to work out what to do for the longest time, I decided that I would finally make some psds for some of my favourite shows and movies! These are separated for light and dark scenes and should be adjusted almost perfectly. But of course, adjust how you like as long as you don't claim as your own!
I was asked how to do the foil balloon effect on this gifset and since writing a tutorial for it would take so long, I’ve decided to share my psd!
Walkthrough + psd below the cut
note: please don’t re-upload or claim as your own! Reblog if you download 💖
You can use any font for this but in my experience, using a sans serif font works best. I really like using the standard Arial MT Rounded Bold but Dunkin font is also a really fun one to do it with.
When you open up the psd, you’re going to see a Hue/Saturation and Vibrance adjustment layer clipped to a group. Ignore those for now.
Below the group there is a text layer that you can use to make this effect. Type in your text and then make a copy of the text layer. (note: you can also use this for shapes or numbers!)
Convert the copied layer to a Smart Object (note: if you don’t convert into smart object, the ripple effects won’t work; but this also means you can’t make text adjustments after this step so make sure you’re happy with your text settings before proceeding)
Once you have your copied Smart Object file, make four more copies (so that you have five layers in total)
Using the psd file, copy over the layer effects and smart filters corresponding to each layer.
On layer copy 2, 3, 4, and 5, the fill should be reduced from 100% to 0%
Layer copy 3 should be set to Blending Mode: Darken
Layer copy 4 should be set to Blending Mode: Overlay
Layer copy 5 should be set to Blending Mode: Soft Light, and the layer opacity should be reduced from 100% to 18%
Using the Hue/Saturation layer you can adjust the colour by moving the Hue slider left or right and for bright neon you can move the Saturation slider to the right and for a more muted/pastel look you can move the slider to the left.
Your foil balloons are now ready for use!
I like creating this effect in a separate workspace than my gifs/edits and when I copy them over, I prefer to merge the five smart objects together so that nothing gets lost during the copy (shadow angles can sometimes act up, especially if you’re putting it on a gif using frames), but this isn’t a strictly necessary step.
I hope this explanation is clear and if you have any questions, please drop me an ask or send me a message!
Includes an Adjustments Folder with extra brightness layer & color adjustment area
(color adjustment is why it works for most fandoms - you'll need to adjust this)
Includes stylistic adjustments:
A lower vibrance//saturation setting (Gif 7)
A B&W option (Gif 8)
A lower brightness/contrast setting (not pictured)
psd 63 for the maze runner trilogy (requested by @newthomally)
should work on most of the brighter outdoor scenes. it will probably need a lot of adjustments per scene (mostly the selective colors layers).

a psd I made for my bff @jimmynovakss for spn. I decided to split the two psds into a light scenes & dark scenes! Both have been perfectly adjusted but obv you can adjust and do whatever you like as long as you don’t claim them as your own! download.
