Okay, let’s see what my brain can spew out tonight before I sleep and lose it all.
We lined up for 11.5 hours, and made some friends, etc. Fall Out Boy were awesome. We actually saw them walk into the venue, too. It was quick and sweet, though.
The show: the interesting part is that I had never seen many videos of them live before so I didn’t know what to expect. They were phenomenal, really and truly. Our waiting paid off and we reached the barrier. We (myself, Mikalya, Shannon and Tamara, in this order) were right in front of Joe, with Tamara’s end more towards Patrick. I don’t think I can piece together a complete recount of the night, so here the rest is in dot point form:
- They started with The Phoenix, and came out wearing balaclavas and waving around their FOB banners. That was totally neat.
- Their stage presence was amazing!! Joe and Pete continually swapped places and joked with each other. And, like, spun. Patrick danced a /lot/ and it was really amazing to see. He really boosted the atmosphere of the crowd.
- Interestingly, I didn’t make eye contact as much with Joe as I did with Ray Toro, in the same hall and almost exactly in the same position, a year apart. Sad face.
- They played their cover of Beat It!!! !!!!!!! !!!!1!!1! That was so badass, both the guitar and the singing.
- Also played Love, Sex, Death. That was interesting. I think they were excited to play it, though.
- Patrick, hilariously, forgot the lyrics to Save Rock and Roll temporarily. When the second verse came in, he sung the first two lines, and then started singing the next two lines but from the first verse. So we got to hear him swear twice. His face when he realised was priceless, though.
- Another funny part was when Joe went to run and jump off a step on Pete’s side, and he fell off so he immediately tried again, with a faster run with time.
- When the acoustic section started playing, I was so confused. There was sound, but no people. Then I remembered gifsets and previous recounts from others and recognised that they were behind us. ;~; Ah well.
- Oh! They also did the band/crowd group photo thing! So nice of them. They were pretty close when that happened (but I got a hand or two in front of my face, so unlikely to be seen, sadder face).
- I remember I Don’t Care, Light ‘Em Up, and This Aint A Scene being some of their more intense songs.
- I noticed that some of the songs they played were slowed down compared to the album version. Whatever makes it playable live, I’m cool with.
- Andy Hurely was always in the back and I barely got photo. =[ I was so excited when, during the last song, Saturday, he got a mic and started singing while climbing out of his drum kit. He was smiling too! What a lovely.
- Oh yes, and at one point Pete was talking about things and Patrick was sitting in front of us on the steps to the higher level of the stage. He was just chilling, so we decided to wave to him! …And to keep waving until he acknowledged us, damn it. Which he did and waved back. =D We’re lame for forcing a reaction out of a band member, though.
Afterwards, we stayed around the venue in case they came out. Which they did. And we had the perfect viewing of. But, sigh, they had to leave immediately. Understandably, of course. Patrick made sure to mouth out an apology in the care and blow us a kiss.
Then we left.
