I absolutely love this scene. The guard offers his resignation because, well, that’s what’s expected. In fact, a lot of cultures would probably have demanded his execution (I’m sure he would definitely have been executed if this had been the Harkonnen house). And the duke’s attitude is just like, “I don’t care who let him in, just do your job and get the rest of ‘em out.”
That’s why Atreides House is so good and we can side with them. Because they care about their own. They value people in general. “So you made a mistake, big deal, I don’t care. You’re still the best soldier I’ve got, I’m not letting you go.” A person’s worth is not diminished because they made a mistake.
