literary term: hamartia - the tragic flaw
the tragic flaw is obvious - racism. it's shown when Starr's ex-friend Hailey spats racist comments and mentions all her racist tendencies throughout the book. Officer 115 becomes the target of a revolution for his racism - he assumed that Khalil was inflicting danger simply because he was black and then he murdered Khalil, while he was unarmed.
Racism is a huge theme of the book, and it can definitely be considered to be the tragic flaw of most the antagonists.
