Today happens to be World Tiger Day and coincidentally I happen to be illustrating a tiger as I type this. The first tiger I've ever drawn. I don't usually draw mammals, as you know, I usually stick to the birds. -- It's time for some tiger facts! -- There are between 4,000 and 7,000 tigers left in the world. Their population is declining so quickly that if their use in medicinal products isn't stopped, the animals will become extinct while their habitats are still perfectly viable. The use of tiger bone paste in Chinese medicine is thought to cure rheumatism...it doesn't! -- There were once 9 subspecies of tiger in existence. 3 are now extinct. The remaining 6 subspecies are all endangered or critically endangered. -- Here are some easy things to do that help conserve the tiger population: 🐯 Don't buy any products containing tiger parts. 🐯 Do not support "tiger tourism", under the guise of "sanctuaries", tigers are kept sedated, against their will and are usually victims of the cruel wildlife trade. 🐯 Purchase second-hand products instead of brand new. By reducing the demand for new products we reduce pressure on natural and finite resources.
