Senior Year Thunder Bay Prep
Class was over and you gathered your things and headed to the cafeteria for lunch as usual. As you made your way, you felt a gentle nudge on your shoulder. It stopped you in your tracks and you turned around to face who it was.
"Oh, Will," you said, greeting him with a shy smile, your books tightly held against your chest as you continued on your way.
Will stood confidently before you, causing you to suddenly stop in your tracks.
"Is there something you need? I was trying to get to the cafeteria ..." You said as your stomach growled, causing you to let out a small chuckle. "I'm kind of hungry," you admitted and Will couldn't help but let a small smile escape his lips.
"Yeah, actually, there's something I've wanted to discuss with you. It has something to do with Misha…” Your heart jumped slightly, Misha was Will's cousin. “It's just that it's been weighing on my mind for quite some time," Will began to confess.
Misha was your boyfriend and you had a feeling of what Will was going to say, but you decided to let him continue the conversation anyways…
"It's fine, Will. I'll try to listen," you said as you resumed strolling down the hallway.
"You just have to promise me you won't get mad. I mean, I just know how you are, and I just want to say this without you getting upset at me," Will said as he nervously massaged the back of his neck.
You simply nodded in agreement as you dropped your books to your side and within seconds he began speaking with a louder voice.
"Okay, well, I honestly can't understand why you like him, let alone are still dating him…" Will's voice began to raise with anger and you just blinked at him, this was not what you were expecting.
You found yourself taken aback, given that Will didn't know any of the specifics of your relationship with him, just his own, and besides Misha had apologized. He said that it was all just a big misunderstanding.
You found yourself in a state of perplexity, unsure of how to formulate a response that would avoid any hint of defensiveness.
"It's not for you to understand…" You began as you felt a wave of annoyance. "And it shouldn't matter to you why I still like him, Will, I mean, he is my boyfriend…” You started to walk, letting your voice trail off slightly before beginning again.
“I love him and it shouldn't matter to you.” Your voice suddenly grew with greater volume, and your posture transformed from slouched to perfectly straight as you hugged your books once more.
"Oh, come on, don't be stupid, Y/N! He cheated on you, he may be finally but I will beat his ass. And besides, it wasn't just once! You can't seriously believe he won't do it again!" Will spat out his voice growing hot as his fists clenched.
You felt anger build up inside of you and in a sudden and abrupt manner, you interrupted Will's continuous statements, the anger growing more visible as your face began to turn red.
"Will, you really need to learn to mind your fucking business," you said, shaking your head as you gritted your teeth together.
"Mind my business? How can I when you come crying to Damon and I have to hear him complain about it?” Will stated as he moved to stand in front of you. “He cheated on you on your birthday, Y/N! We were all there!” Will shouted, leaning closer to you so that you are just barely touching, his voice raising in an assertive tone.
You two were now in the middle of the cafeteria now and your words were growing louder with each sentence and everyone's attention was on the two of you.
Will was implying that Misha was going to cheat on you again and you couldn't decide if you should believe him and if he was right, but either way, you experienced a twinge of irritation. It was your life, you could do as you pleased.
Before the conversation could escalate any further, Kai quickly rushed over to you, quietly slipping in behind you and with a deft maneuver, he led the three of you out of the bustling lunch room, ensuring that you guys remained undetected from any nosey high schoolers.
Kai was uncertain of the situation and what had been said between the two of you. His mind raced, trying to piece together what this could possibly be about and to try and say the right response, but uncertainty clouded his thoughts.
You looked to Kai for direction and, perhaps, agreement on your side. Your hands were trembling with frustration from what you were experiencing, and fury was radiating off of you.
Kai gave you a quick glance and turned his attention downward before speaking.
"I don't really know what's happening but if it's about what I think it's about, then he's right; I mean, I think you—" Kai started as he shot you a meaningful glance, tilting his head in your direction, but you weren't having it.
"You truly believe that you have the audacity to speak on this, do you? Please explain what you think," you said before you thought for a moment.
“Personally? Break—”
"Let me guess: break up with him? He apologized and said it was a mistake, so be it! It's my choice, not yours!" You exclaimed, your tone resonating with defiance the entire time as you stormed back into the cafeteria.
You were unable to listen to them any longer, despite the fact that you knew that this talk was going to take place and you knew that everyone was going to think you were stupid for getting back with him, but you felt that it was the right thing to do and it was none of their business.
You thought that it only bothered Will so deeply because he liked you. You noticed the way he was always yearning for you and now that you think about it, you can't help but notice his unwavering persistence to make moves on you. You noticed how Kai always took the chance to hate on Misha as well, maybe to boost Will’s ego even though he was in a relationship with Emory, you knew he was hiding something.
Will let out a sigh of defeat, well aware that he was unable to persuade you to see things from their perspective. You had an unyielding stubbornness that possessed you and made it extremely difficult to change your opinion.
"Well, I don't want to be the one to say I told you so... again," Will muttered with his head hanging low as he made his way into the hall.
"You won't have to!" You called out to him, watching him walk towards the table you all sat at, but he paid you no mind as he gave you a dismissive wave and then you glanced in Kai's direction.
"Are you seriously going to side with him right now?" you exclaimed as you observed the look on his face, your voice tinged with frustration. Kai looked down, not replying, and after a few seconds, you released an irritated sigh.
"Can you please just trust me on this?" You pleaded, your eyes brimming with longing.
Kai stared back at you, his eyes brimming with tenderness.
“You know, as your friend, I always trust your judgment, but as Will’s friend, I strongly advise against believing him."
Kai's demeanor shifted, growing more confident as he firmly grasped your shoulders.
"Just please be careful," he said and you were unable to resist as you let a small smile escape.
"I'm always careful," you said as you gave him a mischievous wink. Kai let out a small sigh and shook his head.
“I'm being serious; I'm watching you and if he tries something again—" You interrupted him abruptly.
“I know, you all will," you said and Kai threw up his hands in surrender before strolling over to the same table.
As you and Kai took your seats at the table, all eyes turned towards you, filled with curiosity and intrigue.
The atmosphere was thick with anticipation as everyone tried to unravel the mysterious encounter between you and Will.
"Hey you, Y/N, are you okay?" Michael inquired like he already knew the answer to the question because Will most likely already filled in the table on the situation.
“Yeah, I'm just starving," you said as you began to eat and gently dismissed the subject while nodding your head.
"If Will and Kai are causing you trouble, I can handle them," Damon assured you in a confident tone, playfully nudging and eliciting a chuckle from you, which caused Kai to roll his eyes.
“I highly doubt that will be necessary," you said with an eye roll in response.
“I can help too,” Michael added in and you just rolled your eyes again.
“No, everything and everyone is fine, we aren't beating anyone up,” you said once again dismissively.
“Yet…” Will muttered under his breath and Damon chuckled in response, but you just scoffed.
“Okay, fine, yet… Michael, Damon, I give you full permission to do whatever you please with them,” you said playfully.
“Well, I don't!” Emory added as she pulled Will closer to her and Nikova did the same with Kai.
“We were gonna do it anyways,” Damon mocked and then added, "After we do Misha.”
