Fighting a storm (literally)
Redraw of this because I looked at it and was so disappointed in its execution
Friday Monsters: Thunder Boar
This week’s Friday Monster is the Thunder Boar! A creature I made shortly after starting GURPS (and long before this blog) that I’ve redone using what I’ve learned. A beast of the storm, able to let loose bolts of electrified plasma, waves of force and even become like the clouds for a short time!
Thunder Boar 170 Points
“A creature of terrible rage, and tremendous power. Gifted with the heart of a storm and passion of a boar, these beasts trample through vast plains and forests.”
Attributes: ST 15 (No Fine Manipulators -40%; Size Modifier -10%) [25]; DX 12 (No Fine Manipulators -40%) [24]; IQ 5 [-100]; HT 14 [40]
Secondary Characteristics: Dmg 1d+1/2d+1; BL 45 lbs.; HP 15 [0]; Will 14 [45]; Per 10 [25]; FP 14 [0]; Basic Speed 6.50 [0]; Basic Move 8 [10]; SM +1 (2 hexes)
Advantages: Call Lightning [36], Combat Reflexes [15], Cutting Striker (Tusks) [7], DR 3 [15], Storm Jaunt [108], Thunder Stomp [30]
Disadvantages: Bad Temper (9) [-15], Berserk [-10], Quadruped [-35], Wild Animal [-30]
Skills: Brawling (E) DX+2 [4]-14; Innate Attack (Breath Weapon) (E) DX [1]-12
Call Lightning [36]: Bolts of electrified plasma erupts from the beast’s tusks (count as a breath weapon). The Thunder Boar can only manage this a few times a day, saving it for particularly tough opponents.
Advantages: Burning Innate Attack 4d (Limited 3/a Day -20%; Overhead +30%; Side Effect “Stunning” +50%; Surge +20%) [36]
Storm Jaunt [108]: Becoming as mist the Thunder Boar speeds up and passes through most obstacles. When outmatched or simply in a rush this comes in handy!
Advantages: Enhanced Move 2 (Ground) (Only While Insubstantial -10%) [36], Insubstantial (Costs Fatigue ‘2 FP’ -10%) [72]
Thunder Stomp [30]: A burst of force emanates from the boar’s stomp, knocking back most anything nearby! The Thunder Boar uses this in large crowds, delighting in the mayhem and destruction!
Advantages: Crushing Innate Attack 6d (Area Effect 2 Yards +50%; Double Knockback +20%; Emanation -20%; No Wounding -50%) [30]
Lair: The Thunder Boar goes wherever it wants really, eating as it does so, and demolishing vast stretches of land with its rage. At night it just curls up where it got tired at. Very rarely large groups of Thunder Boars form, referred to somewhat poetically as Storms.
Tactics: The Thunder Boar chases down its chosen prey, often cutting them off Storm Jaunt at every turn. Goring if possible, and using Thunder Stomp when in the middle of larger groups. The beast saves Call Lightning until it is absolutely necessary, stunning and burning a tougher foe. Often times though the Thunder Boar’s Berserk takes control causing it to rampage about!
Alright. I don’t know how much people are talking about it, but I’m just gonna go ahead and say it:
THAT THUNDERBOAR WAS COOL.
