I've been feeling horrible lately so I haven't had energy to do much commentary just been letting myself enjoy the last few episode but I'll mb do some retrospective comments later - especially about The Hall of Egress.
I just want to note this happening again
otherwise, we're entering on
I love this whole sequence Jake is the best and cutest
Ooo always up in Finn's business wanting to know who he's sharing his teen bod with!! I remember being really excited about this episode because Huntress Wizard was one of my favorite background characters at some point (well, she was the entire early fandom's favorite background character I would say) and I thought she'd never get expanded on. I definitely was not expecting for her to turn out to be Finn's endgame love interest though, I don't think anyone was.
I think the reappearance of "Science Cat" is kind of a nod/meta joke to this idea, a background character from Marceline's song we never expected to see again.
i am realizing this rewatch how often they reuse that particular finn scream - it's like this series "my leg"
I like how Finn kind of has the feminine role in this traditional trope of first encounter having an awkward sexual tension haha. But it's played very genuinely here it's not meant to be funny; Finn is all ~alluringly beautiful~ playing his flute in the river - stuff like this always reflects the feminine gaze in AT.
she's so much bigger than him
And that was that. I think even when I watched this episode I didn't expect them to be endgame, felt like a weird one-off thing, but they continued to hint at it from here on. I think even at the end you could have seen it as maybe just one of the many gfs Finn would have in his life, but Fionna & Cake sort of solidified it as likely his main/steady romantic relationship (unless they're just friends that still hang out ig).
I think they work together, she fits Finn's grass theme, it feels like a nice mature relationship of mutual understanding, but it doesn't make them a very exciting ship now does it haha? I think it's cute but I can't say I've ever had strong feelings about it. Anyways, I'm surprised I've not ever seen much complaining about their age gap as there definitely is one. But I guess since at this point since Finn was 16 it felt less weird for him to get with all the long-lived species girls around him ala edward bella twilight.
Goliad & Stormo mention ;o;
Finn would be capable of improving this much at art in 30 seconds after one tip
This is an episode I missed! And it was a pretty important one to PB, too. It was really interesting to see how her underlings view her, and to see how she wants to distance herself from her past cold calculating way of ruling the kingdom - dare I say Marceline's influence, who likes to challenge PB's perception of herself. And Finn's influence too, maybe.
But I wonder if this attitude would last for PB, I think PB is simply reactive to her environment. In times where she can be soft and has motivation to be she will, but as we see from the Prizeball Guardian something might have reverted her to her old ways (though I think it was definitely meant to be some kind of insurance even if it has seemingly trapped everyone in a cryosleep for a thousand years).
