We all know the achievement gap exists between low-income and middle-income youth. But did you know that size of the achievement gap remains constant during the 9 months of school year? It's during the SUMMER that it widens. And did you know that the widening of the gap during the summer is cumulative? By 5th grade, these summer learning losses can leave low-income students 2.5 to 3 YEARS behind their more affluent peers.
