autumn at its finest ❤️ the thuringian forest is our go to when we want to pick mushrooms, and in the past few years my parents often chose #singen as their turf. it's a charming little village directly situated at the foot of the singener berg. the woods surrounding it have a wide variety of all kinds of mushrooms, so it never gets boring. also, a mixed mushroom meal is what you want to go for, too many of only one species is just bland and doesn't give your meal texture and taste. in addition to the mushroom hunt you get to enjoy lovely autumn woods and gorgeous views, sometimes you even stumble upon wild animals ❤️ clearly, this annual tradition is one of my favourite things to do in autumn. #singenerberg #singen #thuringia #thuringianforest #mushrooms #nature #autumn #woods #autumncolours (hier: Singener Berg) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGwceT0nhKW/?igshid=1e9rlq2k246qz

we hiked around the lütschetalsperre in the thuringian forest today (15 km) and while my right knee is pretty much destroyed right now, it's still been an utter delight to explore the area and stumble upon breathtaking mountain views, clear brooks in narrow valleys, burned out 17th century tunnels, rocks overgrown with lichen and romantic lakes and forest paths. it is such an enchanting and inspiring mountain range and one we should definitely explore more of outside of our usual main hub in oberhof, which we mostly visited in winter in the past. yesterday led us to #schmalkalden , a city in the thuringian forest! we learned about the schmalkaldic league, an union from the renaissance era, that formed in this city and went on to be a protective alliance for the protestant confession during the reformation. there's a really informative and highly entertaining exhibition about it inside wilhelmsburg castle. also worth seeing are the castle's chapel and various halls that are wonderfully decorated in renaissance fashion! but it was freezing cold inside, so be sure to wear thick clothes, in case you get so intrigued by the content of the exhibits that you don't leave for the next 3 hours 😅 we warmed up afterwards in the @viba_sweets café, which is attached to a museum about the local nougat producer! the viba world is highly recommended, as you can watch how some of the sweet delicacies are created and even can produce your own if you wish to! #thuringia #thuringianforest #schlosswilhelmsburg #castles #interiors #renaissance (hier: Schloss und Museum Wilhelmsburg) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4zFQ4YokDE/?igshid=1dzmpnechi4gc
