Tears blurred my vision as I stared at the two men kneeling in the dirt, hands bound, dark heads bowed. These were men I’d grown up with, men I loved. Especially Davyd. The guards hadn’t treated them well, but I had expected as much. My own arms sported unwarranted bruises.
“Milady,” King Navandahr crooned, descending the steps of his litter slowly, majestically. Silvered silks whispered, curling around his brown limbs like sinuous, sensuous snakes. He oozed confidence. As well he might. My people were defeated. I was here to surrender.
His bare chest gleamed darkly beneath the shifting silks. My heart clenched. He’d undoubtedly claim me for his own and this conqueror, not Davyd would share my bed.
You are a queen, I chided myself and forced my eyes to meet Navandahr’s devil-pale, kohl-lined gaze.
He gestured to the men. ”Blood demands blood, but I will let you decide which.” His smile was cruel as I gasped, looking back at the kneeling men, my heart breaking.
Choose?
I couldn’t.
Davyd didn’t move, his eyes glassy and dull. But Garen’s head snapped up. “Choose me,” he demanded.
Ah Garen, so brave, so selfless. I knew I would do as he asked. I loved Garen, but I loved Davyd more.
We both did.
“You don’t have to do this, “ I lied.
“Don’t I?” he said, all the love he felt for Davyd shining in his face. But, it was a love Davyd didn’t share. “Just…make it quick.”
Try your hand at adding some embroidery to your next garment. See what Sara from Radiant Home Studio did to her Liesl + Co. Everyday Skirt.
For Thursday Threads, this week we’ve got a really cool pattern for a skirt with pockets, but also a gorgeous idea for making any item of clothing that little bit more special or unique - sometimes it’s all you can do to find the most basic of clothes with pockets and you miss out on the fancy details on all the other outfits. But you can add your own with only a little bit of sewing skill!
Check out this interview and instructions for the embroidery, or pick up the sewing pattern from Liesl & Co [US, digital delivery, XS-XL] or this similar one from Hawthorne Supply Co [US, digital delivery, XS-3XL]
On Thursdays we’ll be showcasing Threads, sewing patterns, tips and hacks to MAKE your own pockets and retrofit clothes you already have! Sometimes if you’re struggling to find clothes in your size or style, it’s the easiest option. (Although you could just ask!)
Does anyone have the above pattern from BurdaStyle? All I can find are some similar ones:
- Skirt with Pockets (Plus Size) 02/2014 #139 [UK, digital delivery, 44-52w]
- Pocket Skirt 10/2012 [US, digital delivery, 36-44w]
These are the finished products I can share for today. There are lots of little bodies that need to be stuffed, sewn and eyes I need to finish by Saturday.
The doll was made on the purple KB loom (24 pegs). He is about five inches tall. I have changed how I make the arms as I just use the four pegs that line up over the middle of the legs. I knit those four back and forth until I have about 31…
The third annual HER UNIVERSE FASHION SHOW took place Thursday, July 21, at San Diego Comic-Con. Host and Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein wore an original “little block dress” made of LEGO® and designed by 2014 Audience Award winner Andrew MacLaine and brick artist Nathan Sawaya.
27 designers competed with haute couture designs inspired by pop culture stalwarts such as Star Wars, DC, Marvel, Harry Potter, Mad Max: Fury Road, Game of Thrones, Pokémon, Doctor Who, Sailor Moon, Labyrinth, Supernatural, 28 Days Later, Wall-E and Red Dragon / Silence of the Lambs.
The finale of THE HER UNIVERSE FASHION SHOW docuseries, which was filmed last night, will be available on Comic-Con HQ on Thursday, July 28. That same day, voting will open on HerUniverse.com to allow viewers at home to choose a third winner for the series. Comic-Con HQ is available at Comic-ConHQ.com, on iOS and Android devices, Amazon and Roku.
Fast Facts about Ashley’s dress: with a design inspired by a sketch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano created by Dave Filoni, the dress was made of more than 10,000 bricks and weighed in at 25 pounds!

We are the Crystal Gems and we'll always save the day
And if you think we can't, we'll always find a way
That's why the people of this World believe in Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl...
and STEVEN!
I love Steven Universe. It's such a positive show with positive female role models. And to be honest, the opening song makes me cry, mostly because the World believes in them and you just don't see that with female heroes
But I'm not going to get into my love of the show and what it means to me right now, this is a post about fashion after all!
I'm obviously not the only one loving the Crystal Gems because their likeness is inspiring many different designers.
KYOCAT Clothing
I'm in love with these cute little dresses. The styles and prints are simple enough that they can pass as non geeky clothes, but will excite the people who do recognize them
Rarity's Boutique
I've always been a fan of this Boutique since it opened and my Sailor Jupiter hoodie is still the warmest, most comfortable sweater that I own, so I trust their products to last.
I think the Garnet or Amathyst sweater would look lovely in my collection
We Love Fine
We really do Love Fine. They always have great collections and their Steven Universe one is great!
I would much rather collect Crying Breakfast Friends than Shopkins any day
I like this shirt but I would much rather have one that says that I believe in the Crystal Gems,
because I do
Cookie Cat! HE LEFT HIS FAMILY BEHIND!!
Hot Topic
We can always count on HT for being as fangirl as we are about a new show and SU is no exception
I'm in love with this Pearl shirt! It;s just so sweet
You say it Garnet, sniff... I'm not crying...
Unicorn Empire Prints
How amazing are these Fight Like A Gem shirts?
InksterInc
I love these simple but descriptive designs. I want them all!
The Craft in Our Coffee
Every outfit needs a little extra pizzazz and these hair bows are perfect for that!
Ultracrystal
Everyday cospley here I come! This line has everything, shirts, tank tops, dresses and legging in all your favorite gems! There is really a style for everyone
I love this Rose Quartz dress
So put on your favorite outfit, make some together breakfast and go hang out with your fellow Gems
