How should I write abuse among the Orkneys?
So how should I handle the abusive relationship between Morgause and her children? Much as we like to shit on Agravaine as a sexist spiteful jerk who doesn’t get consent, how does this link to his upbringing?
Also had a moment some days ago when I thought of Gawain refusing to beat his younger brothers on his mother’s orders, even though he gets beaten for this and his siblings get punished more for this, making him feel guiltier. Moved me to tears thinking of this.
So should the contrast be Agravaine bought into his mother’s idea of violence and spent the rest of his life thinking violence was the way forward, that he shouldn’t care for other people? Does his misogyny stem from a hatred towards his mother he refuses to admit, still peddling the fiction she was loving?
I know I am basically just ripping off T. H. White from this but... Wace and Layamon were ripping off as well. And its so good and so timeless.
“Indeed, they did love her. Perhaps we all give the best of our hearts uncritically—to those who hardly think about us in return.”
Its making my eyes water just thinking of White’s miserable life.
And how do Soredamors and Clarissant fit into this?

A wintery day off, fresh tea, and beat-up paperback for company. I fully admit this is my first venture into T.H. White, but I've already devoured 50 pages of this, breaking a bad reading slump. He rings so familiarly cozy, in the way that folk stories sound. #amreading #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #thwhite #theonceandfutureking #theswordinthestone #arthurianlegend #booklr https://www.instagram.com/p/BqszgEVn_eY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dvi7log09lth

This is a vintage 1958 copyright edition from the International Collectors Library. The Once and Future King by T.H. White is the story of K
“The best thing...is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”
― T.H. White
