“Of course she’s not mine. Felicity Smoak needed to visit Oliver and she doesn’t trust a lot of people with her,’ Anna explained letting Bruce into her home, “And to be honest, I didn’t know you were back in town.”

His mother’s eyes stared at him, dull, lifeless, unmoving, a dribble of white froth leaking from the side of her mouth and splayed out on the ground. Catherine Todd died in pain, Jason knew. Cold and alone, because he hadn’t been there, to roll her to side to stop her from choking. He knew it had been a risk to leave her alone, it always was, but they had needed food, and he thought the risk worth it - he thought he knew better. It was his fault.
“I do enjoy reviewing my handiwork.” That familiar, haunting laugh, cracking through his skull, a taunt thrown at him upon his return to Gotham from the grave. “I made you, my boy. From the beginning. Batsy wouldn’t have been smart enough to pick you on his own - I had to lead you two together.” He lashed out in the direction of the voice with a cry of rage, his fists meeting nothing but air as the Joker deftly stepped out of the way, tattered purple coat tails fluttering in the breeze left by Jason’s lashing out.
“I made you.” The Joker grinned, stepping around him to kick Catherine - no, Sheila’s body over, burns marring her skin, sinking and sealing the flesh to bone in a grisly mask. The scrape of metal on stone made Jason shiver violently with the familiarity of it, the crowbar now in the Joker’s hand glinting as he dragged to the ground, before lifting Jason’s chin with the crooked end of it. “You wouldn’t be where you are without me, my boy. You know it - I’m as much responsible for you as dear old Bats is - and what a cracking” - the crowbar was pulled back and swung violently into his jaw, blood splattering across the floor as he fell to the side with the impact of it, his skull smacking hard off the ground and ringing with the impact - “job we did with you. I can’t speak for Brucey, but I’m proud.”
Jason clawed his way across the ground as he heard the clicking of the Joker’s heels stepping away, the clang of the crowbar falling to the ground. He looked up once he finally caught his bearings - the Joker standing behind a glass door a the opposite end of the cell. Jason moved himself shakily to his feet, snarling as he stepped forward, ready to smash through the damn glass if need be. The spectres of his mothers gone, he no longer felt frozen in place, too shocked and sick to his gut to move. Now there was nothing but him and the Joker... and a helmet on the ground between them.
“You won’t get me out of your head, boy. I’m more a part of you than any of them, than even him.” The Joker chuckled as he pointed down at the helmet on the ground between them - he same reflective surface as his own Red Hood, but curved into a narrow, pointed face, two armour-plated tips sticking up from either temple. A Bat. “Even Bruce can’t beat me! What makes you think you can?” He mocked with a boisterous laugh as Jason picked up the helmet, his grip determined as he donned it. He couldn’t recall putting on the armour - much like the helmet, it was like his own, but bearing the markings of Arkham, his worst nightmare, the place that represented the worst of Gotham’s depravity. The place where monsters lurked in wait for another chance to terrorise.
But Jason had always known, to beat monsters sometimes you needed to become one. Bruce couldn’t do it - after years of resenting him for it, Jason finally understood. As he rushed towards the door, slamming his shoulder into the glass to shatter it, too incensed to pay attention to the button designed to open it, he understood. Bruce had his burdens to bear, but that wasn’t one of them.
It was his. He would finally finish this, for all of them.

She knew she had probably scared the crap out of Bruce after she had said that she sent him a text that told him to meet her at the doctor’s office. After she had collapsed at Wayne Enterprises Barbara was smothering her and it hurt to be around her knowing she was the cause of her sister’s pain.
After day two of her hospital stay, Barbara had finally admitted that she and Christian were having problems and she didn’t know if it would work out. Her big sister was scared and heartbroken. Stephanie couldn’t put more pressure on her. When it came time to see her regular OB/GYN she had thought to do it on her own, but then realized she wanted a member of Tim’s family there if he couldn’t be there. Her mind had snapped to Bruce. Looking at her phone she hoped he’d hurry. She’d be called back any moment now and she feared what would happen if she wasn’t in the lobby when he got there. She didn’t want him to scare the staff with Batman.
This is so stupid. Pamela told herself, lingering awkwardly at the street corner. She wasn’t sure what she expected to achieve from this - Bruce had made it clear from his parting words what he would do if he ever saw her again. She had wounded him, deeper than she ever had before, for all the animosity she felt towards him, she knew it hadn’t been largely reciprocated. Until now, at least.
She nearly turned tail and ran when he finally emerged - it hadn’t been difficult to find out he was coming into Star City for business, his security detail might be vigilant, but the press were even more so - but she forced herself to dig her heels into the ground to fight down the urge. “Mister Wayne.” She called out just before he reached his car, moving forward but still keeping a decent distance between them, just in case. Bruce tended not to be rash, especially not in his civilian persona, but this was unfamiliar territory. “A word?”

“So we need to talk about what I saw, and I don’t want lies or excuses or any of that. I made a man almost fly off a rooftop. I don’t have time to wonder if the man I am spending so much time with is lying to me. Oh, and you should know I stole a very expensive bottle of wine from your cellar. Consider it collateral damage.“
It had been all too easy to get past the security of Wayne enterprises, a few well placed pheromones to knock out the guards, her own “loyal” followers under the same influence as they slipped past the metal detectors, willfully ignorant to the frantic beeping they let off at the guns in her wake. She detested the weaponry herself, but short of tearing down Wayne Enterprises by the roots of the trees running underneath its concrete, there was really no other way. Oracle wanted her to cause chaos, but the energy that would expend wouldn’t leave her much good for anything else in the later phases of the AI’s schemes. Besides, from her experience Bruce was a man open to negotiation, as self-sacrificial as his proteges if not more so. If it all fell through, she might be able to bargain for some leniency by giving him the chance to keep his employees safe.
The red hair she spotted just before reaching the conference room gave her pause, taking in a deep breath as she bolstered herself. This was for the Green, for the world. She would be damned if she allowed this opportunity to pass by, to sacrifice the potential of her mission being furthered out of sentiment for a past she should have buried long ago. “You make a rather sorry lot, sitting here.” She muttered, having to give no more than a nod of her head to the entrances into the large conference room for the armed men to set themselves up, gazes vacant as the Green willed them to do as they were needed. “I don’t usually like to use force in this manner but... if you do try to move, they’ll shoot.” She warned, her gaze flicking between Bruce, Dick and Kate before giving a resigned sigh. “The best you can do is simply wait for this all to be over. You might live through it, and even past it, if you play along with what Oracle wants.”
