4. What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
Well, originally, Genevieve is from Georgia. And there, her parents own a restaurant that main serves soul food, barbecue, and other Southern cuisines. When she was in middle school and high school, she helped out in the restaurant with her family– which included her parents and her siblings. It was fun to do when she was younger, but as she got older, she ended up fortified in her beliefs that it wasn’t something she wanted to do.
Regardless, a memory that would be seemingly insignificant that stuck with her was when her parents were supportive of her decision to pursue a career of her own. It took a bit of courage to actually tell them at the time, but when she did, the result was better than she expected. They still have held onto some little hope that she would eventually manage the restaurant with her siblings, but that’s another topic completely. So, even though she may not devote herself to the family restaurant, she’ll always appreciate her parents reaction to her decision.
15. What is your character afraid of?
Genevieve likes the beach, and she doesn’t mind boat rides too much. But, she’s afraid of being stranded in deep, open water. It’s a fear that stems from the experience of watching her sister drown when she was younger. She was of the age of 6 when this happened, and she doesn’t remember too much of it now. But she knew how she felt in that moment, and she knew the solemn air that came about after it all. It’s rather haunting for her, to be quite honest. (( Is this an invitation to involve Gen into a thread about her sister or about open water. Why yes. Yes it is. ))
