Closing her menu, Rayna pushed it gently to the edge of the table as she witnessed some of the other patrons do. “I’ll have what you’re having. There’s just so many choices,” She shook her head, caramel colored curls bouncing along her shoulders. “I’d have to visit several times just to try a handful of all the delicious sounding food in that book.”
The scents of unfamiliar food cooked in large vats of oil permeated the little diner. “Do you come here often? You didn’t seem to need to read the menu much at all.” As delicious as the food smelled, Rayna couldn’t help but wonder how healthy the meals here were. If food could be produced so quickly, what shortcuts were taken and nutrients removed for the sake of convenience? Emerald eyes studied her lunch partner. Jakob didn’t seem unhealthy in any way though. Perhaps she was overthinking things, as she tended to do from time to time.
“Do you think this place has those chocolate cookie pieces they could put in my shake though?” Her eyes lit with innocent hope. She knew enough to know not every dining facility held the same food, so it was possible this establishment wouldn’t have the same ingredients for shakes as the other place she’d been to. “If not, I don’t mind plain vanilla.” She smiled at him sweetly.
jakob shook his head, grinning as he leaned his elbows on the table, ❝ no, i don’t come here that often. the food here isn’t… well, let’s just say it probably wouldn’t be that healthy to eat here very frequently. but it’s not so bad every once in a while. as for my order, though… ❞ he shrugged his shoulders, ❝ i like what i usually get, so i don’t see any point in changing it. ❞
he opened his mouth once more to respond to her question on the flavors of milkshakes when a waitress approached the table, ❝ hi, my name is— ❞
the grin on jakob’s lips turned wry, ❝ uh, can i get a different— ❞
❝ no you cannot! ❞ the girl replied, a customer service smile still plastered on her lips, but there was a hint of playfulness in it.
with a groan, jakob leaned back against the plush booth cushions, a hand gesturing between the two girls, ❝ rayna, this is my sister, talon… who i didn’t expect to be here because she usually works the late shifts… ❞ talon leaned over and held out her hand to rayna, icy blue eyes gleaming, ❝ yeah, well, i wanted to go out tonight sooooo i got an earlier shift. very nice to meet you, rayna. ❞
❝ —anyways, can we just get two cheeseburgers with fries, two oreo milkshakes, and an order of mozzarella sticks? ❞ jakob interrupted, to which talon replied with a pout. ❝ awwe, can’t i stick around and get to know your friend a little more? ❞
jakob gave her a pointed look, ❝ absolutely not. you’re working. do your job. ❞
❝ fine. coming right up. have fun on your date ~ ! ❞
jakob flipped her off. she replied by sticking her tongue out at him before turning and walking away. with a somewhat embarrassed smile, he said, ❝ sorry about… her. ❞
