I’ll let you guys in on a secret.  The implant in my vocal fold is migrating.

My voice is getting thin again, I have been choking on water, and I can feel the wedge in my throat, especially when I laugh.  My boss noticed the voice and told me I should tell my Dr sooner rather than later but, I am NOT going near a hospital right now.  Aside from my tendency to asymptotically carry respiratory illness (I don’t want to think about those implications), the hospital staff have better things to do right now then shove a camera up my nose. 

Anyway, I just wanted to vent.  I’ll reblog some art of cats now, to lighten the mood back up.

Cutting Day is here. Last night, I removed all of my jewelry (my nose rings are so old, one broke pulling it out). Now, I am waiting for the friend that volunteered to be my driver. Very tired. I may, however, be able to talk soon.

Expectation

Me Before Surgery: What do you mean I will be awake for the surgery? You are cutting my neck open!

Me During Surgery: Oh hey, is that my larynx being displayed on that monitor?  I am going to sing for the surgical team so I can watch it move!

Me Before Surgery: Damn, the incision they need to make is big.  The scar is going to be horrific.

Me After Surgery: Hey there convenience store staff that asked why I have a voice all of a sudden, check out my SCAR!

I can feel it.  Now that the swelling is going down and the pain is fading, I can feel the wedge holding my left vocal fold closed.  It’s like I swallowed a tortilla chip and it got caught part way down. I am fervently hoping I build up callous or scar tissue or something, because this is going to bother me.

I went in for my very very awkward post-op check up. As it would happen, I was allergic to my sutures. Who knew? I was just watching for sign of infection.

The visit made wonder, though, what do people normally expect after a surgery?  The intern was deeply preoccupied with appearances. She kept on and on about minimizing the final scar.  Not how the wound was healing, not the mechanics of the surgery, not complications to watch out for, the aesthetic aspect of the surgery site. When I told her I really did NOT care how it looked, she became flustered and started over from the beginning on the lotions and massages I need to do so it wouldn’t be ugly. Oh no! I have bruising after only one week of having my neck cut open and pinned back like a spatchcock turkey. I wish I was exaggerating.

She was also deeply confused by the fact that I has done my own research and knew the details of the procedure I had undergone. Do people really let strangers cut them open and not learn about what was actually going to happen? Damn me, buried in medical articles and videos of other people having it done. I read the after-care instructions from no fewer than five different hospitals in different parts of the country. Oddly...none of them mentioned massaging lotions into the scar.

I cannot believe I just let a Dr. talk me into letting him cut my throat open while I am awake. Not today, but soon.

थाइरोप्लास्टी ऑपरेशन से युवक को मिली लड़के जैसी आवाज

कोटा के ईएनटी सर्जन डॉ. विनीत जैन ने दुर्लभ सर्जरी कर युवक को लड़के जैसी आवाज लौटाई न्यूजवेव @कोटा लड़का होते हुए भी आपकी आवाज लड़कियों जैसी निकलने लगे तो आप बेवजह हंसी के पात्र बन सकते हैं। लेकिन मेडिकल साइंस में अब यह संभव है कि आपकी आवाज थाइरोप्लास्टी के माध्यम से नॉर्मल पिच में की जा सकती है। ऐसा ही ताजा मामला उत्तर प्रदेश के बरेली में रहने वाले 21 वर्षीय सौरभ सिंह का है। बचपन से उसकी आवाज लडकों जैसी नहीं निकलती थी, जिससे दोस्तों के बीच उसे झिझक महसूस होती थी। जानकारी मिलने पर उसने कोटा आकर महावीर नगर स्थित महावीर ईएनटी हॉस्पिटल में विशेषज्ञ डॉ. विनीत जैन को दिखाया। जांच के बाद मंगलवार को उसका थाइरोप्लास्टी ऑपरेशन किया गया, उसके बाद उसके मुंह से लडके जैसी पिच एवं आवाज निकली तो वह खुशी से झूम उठा। ‘प्यूबरफोनिया’ बीमारी का इलाज संभव है

Dr.Vineet Jain हॉस्पिटल के निदेशक डॉ. विनीत जैन ने बताया कि इस बीमारी को प्यूबरफोनिया कहा जाता है, जो सामान्यतः 9 लाख में से किसी एक को होती है। इस बीमारी में बचपन से लड़के की उम्र तो बढ़ जाती है, लेकिन आवाज में जो बदलाव होना चाहिए वह नहीं हो पाता है। पीड़ित लड़के को लगातार वोकल पिच टूटने के साथ-साथ आवाज में कंपन या लहराने जैसा भी महसूस होता है। इस बीमारी से पीड़ित लड़के को 12 साल की उम्र तक स्पीच थेरेपी से ठीक किया जा सकता है। उसके बाद इसका इलाज केवल ऑपरेशन से ही संभव है। ईएनटी स्पेशलिस्ट डॉ. विनीत जैन को इस युवक का सफल ऑपरेशन करने में करीब एक घंटा लगा। ऑपरेशन के बाद युवक ने अपनी सही आवाज पा ली है। पीड़ित युवक ने बताया कि उसकी आवाज से सब जगह उसका मजाक उड़ाए जाने से वह काफी परेशान रहता था। किसी से बातचीत करने में हिचकता था। लेकिन ऑपरेशन के बाद से वह बिल्कुल ठीक हो गया है, अब वह बहुत खुश है। ऑपरेशन में निश्चेतना विशेषज्ञ डॉ.आरती गुप्ता का सहयोग रहा। Read the full article
