I suppose I made a YouTube video again. pls watch if you like Latin poetry and hymns. the poet is also not famous or cool to anyone (we barely know his name). and my recitation is sub-par. just managing expectations here. there’s subtitles in both Latin and my own English translation, since the two other English translations I’ve seen suck really bad and aren’t worth reading for any reason.
btw, this poem is ascribed to Plato, and you can see why: it quite obviously references the doctrines revealed in the Timaeus about the creation of the world, though it is highly unlikely that Plato wrote it. it’s very much in the tradition of the Orphica, and I sense some Chaldaean Oracles and maybe even Hermetica in there too, but these become so similar anyway that disentangling what comes from where is impossible. anyway
