The #tibetanflag is banned in Tibet by the Chinese government since the 1959 uprising. It is now a symbol or protest and the #freetibet movement. Tibet was a hidden land, that intentionally had very little connection to the outer world. Did you ever see the movie, “Seven Years in Tibet", where they chase #bradpitt away at the boarder!!! It was like a whole country in retreat!!!! But China had their eye on taking over. Tibet was rich in minerals, gold, uranium, gems. The low lands, below 10,000 feet, were beautiful forests. Tibetans never cut down a tree, they would take some branches, or fallen logs, but never cut trees. They saw all things as sacred, all was sentient. When I was there, there were endless logging trucks, and the steep mountain sides were sliding down into the narrow river canyons. Clear cut, turned to dust, the fragile environment of a high desert. And the animals… In Tibet there were some hunters, but hunters were looked down upon. So there were a few, but mostly the wild animals were protected. The huge herds of antelope, gazelle, and deer of many sorts were endless. The rare #bluesheep the can walk on the craziest of ledges, the ever mystical and shy #snowlion tigers, bears, wolves, huge birds of prey, eagles, hawks, and vultures. It was rich and pristine, not to mention the WATER. It is THE high ground of the world which is always militarily strategic. It became apparent that Tibet needed to establish diplomatic relations with the modern world. Under the 13th Dalai Lama the flag was created. The golden boarder on the three sides represent the richness and radiance of the Buddhas teachings, the side without the boarder represents openness to non-Buddhist thought. Two snow lions hold the wishing gem which is the union of spiritual and temporal rule based on the Buddhist principles with the wish to bring benefit to all. They raise and protect the Three Jewels, which represents the Buddha, the Teachings, and spiritual community. The sun rises above the snow covered mountain, the red and blue rays are male and female guardians and represent the people and their ancestral tribes.
