Eli laughed then, really threw his head back and laughed for the first time in ages, before pulling Dewey close and tucking his face into the other boy’s neck.  “Sorry, sorry,” he apologized breathlessly, interrupted by quiet chuckles that kept breaking out of him.  “I’m just saying, I never thought I’d see you in that specific pair of underwear, you know?”

"Stop it. Stop crying. You're going to make me cry -- Goddamn it."

Eli tried to smile, but knew it looked weak when paired with his puffy eyes and flushed, tear-stained cheeks.  Even so, he was happy.  They’d been on the run for months now, and something in him told him Dallas had given up the chase, had let them run free.  And he craved that, that freedom that came with that idea, the freedom to walk out and about without having to worry about disguises or whether they would come back to each other at the end of the day.  “I’m happy, I promise,” he said, though his voice was still thick with tears.  “I think we’re free.”

The words, spoken soft into the velvety darkness of the room around them, made Eli blink.  Dewey’s lips were pressed against the back of his neck now, almost as if to pretend he’d never spoken, but Eli’d heard him.  And he had no idea what to say to that.  So instead, the hero turned in Dewey’s arms and cupped the boy’s face in his hands to make him look at him.  And after a moment of silence spent just staring into Dewey’s eyes, trying to make him understand what Eli couldn’t put to words, he pressed their foreheads together and kissed him softly.  “Get some sleep,” he whispered, wrapping his arms around the other boy.  “I’ll be here in the morning.”

Where Fallow’s innocent mind ended there was a wild nature to behold, awoken during the deepest of sleeps as he became consumed with dreams of his face tucked away into the shoulder of the young woman and the shaky breathing unmatched between them - out of time and out of key with one another. The dream didn’t last however as he heard a noise from beside him, causing the young witch to open his eyes with a whimper and groan from the lack of warmth that tugged away from the space beside him. His face still draped with a sleepy grin. With slight movements, all languid and drawn out, Fallow moved to rest his head in the curve of the woman’s hip beside him; his face still pale with rose and warm from his dreams as he nuzzled closer. “I’, awake, I swear.”

The subtle taste of skin against skin was burning through Faust’s memory, prickling at the tip of his tongue and tasting like the sweetest of treats. He wanted to lose himself in the fingers he saw tangled in Pennington’s blond locks or in the wayward warm kisses that missed the other witch’s lips entirely. But the movement beside him in the bed tugged him from his dream, hands dissolving into smoke as the dream-Pennington faded out and the real version came into Faust’s sleep laden groggy view. Slowly lanky arms reached over, covered in tiny scars and scratches from the demand his own line of magic had on him - tell tale signs of the darker spirits he played with and the sacrifices they required - only to curl around the blond’s waist as he tried to leave the bed. “Oh no you don’t...”

Faust slowly stirred from the cloudy dream he’d been warmly settled in, heated fingers from the girl beside him pawing her way up his chest as her lips snagged and caught against the pale scarred skin she kissed at. She was pulling herself into his lap as his own blood smeared across his chest in stained hand prints, breathy words without meaning getting caught in the hollows of the older witch’s mind until his subconscious roused him. Slowly eyes flittered open, pale and bright with a gleam of darkness hovering in them for a few initial moments. His voice let a slight sigh pass his lips as his body slipped from it’s sleepy numbness to reveal a problem below the sheets that had cleverly curled around his hips. And to his right - as his head lazily lulled to the side - he caught a glimpse of the young woman beside him. She’d been the one he’d been the most uncertain about letting in, and yet she still made his heart race just the way the others did.
